Question about Bose Lifestyle 38 System

1 Answer

DVD Problem When I place the DVD in the player it gives me a message saying unsupported format. We've owned this system for about 6 years land it has always worked fine until last night when I entered a new DVD and it would not play. I tried other DVD's that I've previously played and they don't work either. It started to play the intro to the DVD and then just stopped and now it won't play anything. Everything else on the system seems to work just fine.

Call Bose and they will send you an update CD to update the firmware of the CD/DVD player. I had a problem where a few of my new movies would not play at all. They sent me an update, no more issues. If you're a registered owner, they will send update CDs frequently, be sure you're registered as well.

Check the disk for scratches, and attempt to play it on another DVD player or your computer, if it has a DVD drive installed. The drive will have DVD written on the front. If the disk isn't a commercial DVD but playable on the computer then the problem is a unsupported format. To make sure your DVD player is working correctly put a known good DVD the player to ensure it still works.

Make sure that the disc you are using are region 1. To check the disc region, look on the spine of the dvd. It should say NTSC region one. You can also download software to change the firmwar of the player to region free. Or your player may already have the capability built in. Go into your menu and check for region settings. If it has them, it should be set to "one" Se it to all regions and it will play any region disc.

Bose Lifestyle 38 Unsupported Format message

All you have to do is carefully take the top off and clean the "Iris" which is the reader with a little alcohol and cotton swab. Bose will charge $165 plus shipping to do this. Go to website and search how to clean DVD players and it will show a video, easy to understand.
