Problem with alignment on Dell Photo 926 printer

I put in two new black-and-white cartridges in my Dell Photo 926 printer, and both times it said "alignment error" and drained most of the ink in the cartridge. Color one works fine. Someone on this site said to clean inside (or something); what does that mean and how do I do it?

Also, can I just put a black-and-white cartridge in the color slot (which works) since I don't really need to do color printing?

Thanks much for your help!

Try printing a windows test page from the driver software, START-SETTINGS_PRINTERS-DELL964- properties,,etc. If the test page prints with color then I believe that your driver is set to print in greyscale. If you can't find that option in the driver you might try to re-install the driver from your original cd.

SOURCE: Dell 926 won't recognize new color cartridge

Try this...shut down the printer. Insert new cartridge, let the printer cycle out with new cartridge. then reboot the computer. This should solve the problem. The cache in the printer will not cycle out. It wants to see the printer as a new entity

Hi there

Replacing Ink Cartridges 1. Turn on your printer. 2. Lift the printer unit. 3. The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy. 4. Press down on the ink cartridge lever to raise each ink cartridge lid. 5. Remove the old ink cartridges. 6. Store the cartridges in an air-tight container, such as the storage unit you received with your photo cartridge, or dispose of them. 7. If you are installing new ink cartridges, remove the sticker and transparent tape from the back and bottom of each ink cartridge. 8. Insert the new ink cartridges. Make sure the black or photo ink cartridge is secure in the left ink cartridge carrier and the color ink cartridge is secure in the right ink cartridge carrier. 9. Snap each lid closed. 10. Close the printer unit. 11. An alignment page automatically prints.

I am trying to print in black and white on my dell photo AIO printer 926 it wont even let me check the box for to print in black and white what can I do?

The problem was that the print options had switched to print using the color cartridge to make up for my empty black ink cartridge.

After you click on print, and then click the preferences button, next go to the Advanced tab. Once there, there should be another button that says, More options. Once that tab is opened, check the box that says, "Use black cartridge to print in black and white."

I was convinced that something was wrong with my new printer cartridge and called Dell. Unfortunately, they wouldn't or couldn't help me and I just lucked up this solution.
