ITUNES My ITUNES does not always see or display my IPOD. My computer always see's it under mycomputer. It's happened on two different Vista laptops. Help?

    install this ms update if you haven't already:
    32-bit vista
    64-bit vista

    if it still isn't working after that
    de-authorize all of your itunes store accounts
    enable the disk-use feature on your ipod
    uninstall itunes
    reboot
    reinstall itunes
    re-authorize the store accounts

Make sure you have itunes on your computer (free download) Then plug touch via usb and itunes should recognize it as a device (look on left hand side of itunes page and sync as normal (instructions in help)

Restarting your computer is often the solution when your iPod fails to sync with your iTunes music library. But if this fails, there are other troubleshooting steps to take.

Recharge your iPod via a USB cable connected to your computer or AC adapter. b> Click the help menu in iTunes and check for updates. Follow the onscreen prompts to download and install the latest version of the software. Open the new version of iTunes. Click the name of your iPod in the source list and check for updates under the summary tab to update your iPod. Attempt to sync your iPod with iTunes. Slide your iPod's hold switch to the hold position and then to off. Press and hold the menu and center buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears to reset your iPod. Open iTunes on your computer and reconnect your iPod to try to sync it with iTunes. Restart iPod service b> Close iTunes and make sure your iPod is disconnected from the computer. Click the 'start' button. Click 'run' if using Windows XP. Type 'services.msc' in the run box in XP and in the search box in the start menu in Windows 7 and Vista. Press 'enter.' Open 'my computer' or 'computer' and look for your iPod listed in the devices with removable storage section. Click the 'start' button in the iPod Service's properties window. Resolve "Original File could not be Found" Double-click the name of a song in the iTunes program that failed to sync to your iPod. When i plug my ipod on to itunes it wont show up

Is it the iPod? Your iPod could fail to show in iTunes for a variety of reasons and this issue can be resolved by something as simple as rebooting your iPod. To reboot your iPod, first lay it on a flat surface. Using your thumb and index finger, press the play and menu button at the same time. If done correctly, your iPod screen will go blank and then you'll see the Apple logo. Is it the USB cable? Your iPod could fail to show in iTunes if you are using a defective USB cable. Try connecting your iPod to another computer that has iTunes installed using the same USB cable. If iPod again fails to show in iTunes, replace the USB cable. Is it my computer? One of the most common reasons your iPod doesn't show in iTunes is because your computer doesn't recognize your iPod is connected. Troubleshooting your computer/iPod connection Disconnect your iPod from the computer and reconnect. If your iPod still doesn't appear in iTunes, disconnect your iPod and reboot your machine. Please can you help I have a white 30G ipod, trying to coonect to laptop running Vista. I have itunes installed and it wont reconize the ipod


You might need a new USB cord. Try launching iTunes before connecting the iPod, and using a different USB port. If that doesn't work, try a different cord ( maybe borrow one )

Can't connect usb, itunes or my computer


Hi,

Try these steps,

  1. Close itunes and open it up again.
  2. Run software update, and make sure you have the latest software for itunes and the latest firmware for your ipod.
  3. Make sure that the ipod is fully charged.
  4. Disconnect other USB devices from your computer andtrya different USB 2.0 port. Also make sure it is a USB port thatconnectsdirrectly to your computer. Not through a USB hub or akeyboard.
  5. Turn off the ipod touch, and turn it on againbyholding down the top button and sliding the bar to power off.Thenpress and hold the top button until the Apple logo appears.
  6. Restart your computer, and reconnect the ipod to your computer.
  7. Download and reinstall the latest version of itunes. www.apple.com/itunes

Connecting ipod to a new laptop


You can actually (or could have) transfer the songs from your
Laptop & iPod by using you iPod like a removable
Hard Disk Drive

Here is the Apple sanctioned method:

Note: While you can use the Transfer Purchase From iPod option under the File menu to copy iTunes Store purchases from the iPod to another computer you can't transfer songs from other sources from the iPod library to iTunes

So you'll need to follow the steps below to use iPod as a hard disk to transfer music files from one computer to another. This process will require the use of iTunes 7 on all computers. Any computers running iTunes 6 or earlier will need to be updated to follow these steps.

Once you have the files transferred, you'll need to authorize any iTunes Store content. If you won't be using your old computer, you'll want to deauthorize it.

Important: Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats), so you can't use a Mac-formatted iPod to move your music to a Windows PC.
Switch the iPod to manual update and enable disk use The first thing you need to do is make sure have configured your iPod to enable disk use. To do this:
  1. Open iTunes on your old computer.
  2. Connect your iPod to your old computer and wait for it to appear in iTunes.
  3. Select your iPod in the Source pane under the Devices section to display your iPod preferences in the main library window.
  4. Click the Summary tab in the main iTunes window.
  5. Click the Manually manage music button. Changing from automatic updating to manual puts a check mark by Enable disk use. A message says:
"Disabling automatic update requires manually unmounting the iPod before each disconnect."

If you need to copy from old computer:
Copy iTunes folder to iPod To copy all your music files (including the library file that holds all your playlists and other settings) to your iPod:
  1. Quit iTunes.
  2. Locate your iPod:
    Mac OS X: On the desktop
    Windows: In My Computer
  3. Locate your iTunes folder:
    Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music
    Windows: \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
  4. Drag the iTunes folder to the iPod. This can take a while if you have a lot of songs.

  • When the copy completes open iTunes.
  • Click on the iPod in the Source pane
  • Click the Eject button in the lower right corner of the iTunes window.
  • Disconnect the iPod from the computer when the "Do not disconnect" message no longer appears on the iPod screen.
Now:
Copy music to new computer To copy all your music files (including the library file that holds all your playlists and other settings) to your new computer:
  1. Locate your Music folder (Mac OS X) or your My Music folder (Windows) on your new computer:
    Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music
    Windows: \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\

  • Locate the iPod on the new computer:
  • Mac OS X: On the desktop.
  • Windows: In My Computer.
  • Double-click on the iPod to open it.
  • Drag the iTunes folder from the iPod to the Music folder (Mac OS X) or My Music Folder (Windows) on your new computer. This can take a while if you have a lot of songs.
  • Open iTunes
    There you go. All your music, playlists, and other information like play counts and ratings have all been moved from your old computer to your new one.

Ipod to pc music play


You can only transfer music from an ipod to a computer if they were purchased through itunes.

If that's the case, right click on your ipod's name under devices. Then click Transfer music.
