Did you ever consider checking manual for guidance? It is very clear regarding correct fluid level. Read it.

Sure I read the manual! The problem is that when the dip stick is removed, whipped off, replaced properly and removed again to read it is dripping with oil from top to bottom obscuring an accurate reading at the two holes even after the mower is sitting idle for some time

If U introduce the stick in very slowly and nice and straight into the opening, you will get a reading provided you wipe the stick nice and clean before introduction. I know it is a PIA but how else can you do it?

Have a GTS 5.5 here, and cannot find the drain plug in order to change the(OLD) oil. Had the blade and cover off,and saw no bolt or plug. Also didn't see a plug on the side. Any help appreciated.

Well If You Cant find drain plug [should be a square drive]

Then I would turn the thing upside down [empty gas tank first of course]& drain it thru the filler plug. Perhaps the drain is an inset hex bolt and you must REALLY clean the underneath, dig around for it!

How much oil should I put in my toro self propelled briggs & stratton lawn mower

if your motor doesn't have a dip stick fill the oil to the sight ring inside the fill tube, try and not overfill , this will cause seals to blow out due to increased pressuer

Toro sprewing oil

The filler spout tube may have pulled out of its seat push and twist to reinsert it down. if the oil is over filled you must drain some out to return it to its correct oil level, if it did pull out of its seat the small bolt holding the filler tube in place may have loosened up and fallen off it must be replaced if this happened.

Lots of smoke coming out of Cub Cadet 2146 muffler

Check the dip stick to see if you over filled it.. You shouldn't have oil above the top line... If you did over fill it remove the dip stick and tilt the mower to the exhaust side to drain on the excess oil out of the dip stick tube...

If it's not over filled with oil the engine more then likely shot and it's time for a new mower..

Won't start

the blades may be locked. remove the spark plug cap so the mower won't start unexpectedly. tilt the mower on its side, air filter facing upwards. work the blades until they loosen and turn freely.
