Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

I have a Whirlpool model #GU2548XTPQ3 that flashes the glass express cycle when not in use and when using the cycle switches from the cycle that was set to the glass express cycle. The unit will not allow you to cancel the setting and restart. I have to unplug it after each use, until today in which I was unable to use at all because it will not clear the glass express cycle.

I don't know if this will work but it is worth a shot. Try to reset your dishwasher by pushing the buttons in a sequence. Usually it is Heated Dry, then Normal, then Heated Dry again and then Normal again - all in a row, don't pause, but do it in a fast sequence. This will do a diagnostic test and then reset your dishwasher. If that is not the sequence, you can type in your dishwasher name and number and the word reset and usually find it on the internet. I don't use glass express cycle although I see it on my dishwasher too, but I am not familiar with it. I use Normal and Heated Dry and that is all and it works great, so you might try just using those if you get it to reset. Hope this helps!

I would run a couple (or more) cycles using TSP (tri-sodium phosphate), it's safe to use with dishes. That should cut the grease and make glasses sparkle.

Blinking Light (Glass XPRESS) - Machine not running...

unless you use your machine heavily, the problem is probably a timer board. it also could be a door switch. it will not run if it thinks the door is open. and if the fill valve does not function, it will not enter wash cycle as there is no water coming in. most likely timer, but some replacement parts are rebuilds. you could have a failed pump again. its not the pump if the unit does not fill.
in any event, i would invest in a better machine rather than put more into the unit.
note: i am not sure why you paid a service call if the problem was under warranty. ask the mfg about that. the servicer may not be straight with you.
bosch makes a good machine, as does miele. both cost a bit, but don't have issues like cheaper machines. cheap machines are cash cows for servicers. i am not sure what you paid for the whirlpool, but i am fairly certain it was under 1200. something from 900 to 1800 would be a good choice for reliability. that not the most expensive. my commercial unit cost 3800, but does a cycle in 90 seconds. time does equate to money, and you know best how much this unit is costing you to deal with.
good luck

I don't know if your dishwasher is the same as mine, but this solution may be what you need. For electronic panel dishwashers made by whirlpool (mine is a whirlpool but with a kenmore name on it), some of them can be reset by pushing in sequence the Heated-Dry button followed by the Normal-Wash button, several times in a row. that is... Push Heated-Dry, then Normal-Wash, Then Heated-Dry, then Normal-Wash... Repeat until all lights light up. When all lights light up you can stop. The washer will then take 5-10 minutes to go through a diagnostics cycle, which is about 18-25 steps or so. You can bypass one step at a time by pushing the STart button. This may not apply to your washer, but is pure gold if it does. Good Luck!
