Hello

This is a common part to break. Either the connector has broken away from the board or the connector itself is broken. In either case the unit has to be stripped down to expose the motherboard. If you're not comfortable repairing this then you can send it to me or take it to a local repairperson. I would charge $50.00 labor + parts (if needed) and shipping.

Good luck

The DC jack in the laptop is a common source of trouble, from no power to intermittent operation. The computer will need to be dismantled down to the motherboard level to access the part.

On my toshiba satellite a85-s107 have a loose connection at the power plug in so power is constantly going on and off this is at the laptop plug in

The only way to deal with this is take laptop apart to access the motherboard and resolder the plug points to firm up the connection. There is no other way to address this.

Gateway kav60 not charging. i have to wiggle the cord and sometimes it refuses to charge.

I guess you've got a broken laptop power dc jack or power cable.

Symptoms of a broken Laptop DC power jack:

- The laptop only operates when you hold the DC power plug in a certain direction (DC jack is broken or loose).
- The laptop only runs on battery power (no power is getting through the DC jack).
- The laptop gets no power at all.
- The laptop will not charge the battery.
- The laptop switches from AC power to battery power intermittently due to a loose or broken power jack.
- The laptop suddenly shuts off.
- The DC jack may feel loose.
- Sparks come out of the back of the laptop when you insert the power plug into the DC jack.

My laptop won't turn on. What can I do?

Make sure you have a good connection with the power cord. Unplugging and plugging it back in will usually verify that. Check your power cable for any areas that are broken, has exposed wiring, or is very loose.

If there are any pins in the power connections make sure they are straight.

If is still does not start, take out the battery and try with just the power cord.

Do you get any lights at all anywhere? Do you hear any fans spinning?

My Compaq 6735s is not powering at all. it doesn't show any indication that light gets to it. I changed power adapter and battery to new one but the situation remain the same. pls help.

Have you checked the power receptacle where you plug the power adapter to the laptop? Does it seem to be broken or loose?
If it is broken, it will need to be replaced. If it is loose, it will need to be re-soldered to the laptop's motherboard. Either way, you will have to fully disassemble the laptop to gain access to the motherboard & do the fix.

Powerjack is loose when plugging in charger.no power,no lights battery can not be charged.

In order to fix this problem, you will have to fully disassemble your laptop to get access to the motherboard & the power jack. If the power jack is not broken but only loose, you can re-solder it to the motherboard. Otherwise, you will need to buy a replacement power jack (usually less than US$ 10), de-solder the broken power jack, & then solder in the new one.
When this is done, re-assemble back your laptop.

Was using my Hp Pavilion dv7 laptop, suddenly turned off while the charger was plugged in. Turned back on then shut off again. Now my laptop wont even turn on, and there are no lights that even come on,...

1. Test power adapter for output voltage. Bend the power cable in various directions while doing this to be sure that there is no broken conductors in the cable.
2. If power adapter is Ok, connect it & see if the power LED on the laptop will glow when you jiggle the power connector in various directions. If yes, then the DC jack might be loose or damaged, & need to be either re-soldered or replaced.
3. If not, then disassemble the laptop. Remove any components that attach to the laptop's motherboard first (e.g. battery, hard drive, RAM, wireless card, optical drive, ... etc.)
4. Next, remove the keyboard & the LCD screen.
5. Finally, unscrew all screws that hold the upper cover & lower cover together so that you could gain access to the motherboard.
6. Inspect the solder points connecting the DC jack to the motherboard. Make sure that none of them is loose. If any, re-solder them.
7. Inspect the center pin in the DC jack. Make sure that it is not broken or loose. If it is, then you might need to replace the DC jack.
8. When you are done, re-assemble back the laptop.
