If you upgraded having scanner failure is not uncommon due to driver issues with newer OS. If using under old conditions and now not working best to kiss it good by and go shopping. Unless you want to try a hard reset and uninstall and reinstall software.

SOURCE: hp officejet 7410 fax failure

Had the same problem as everyone else here - would copy fine but faxing or scanning resulted in the "whizzzzzz" sound (with or without the sheet feeder) and a mandatory reboot.
I followed the suggestion of moving the scanner head to a different part of the drive belt and it works fine now (at least until that part of the belt wears down!). Here was the procedure - it took about 10 minutes.

  1. Remove all T8 screws from the top of the scanner bed - there are two hidden on the left side under the removable flap and two more hidden behind the front control panel cover, which just snaps off.
  2. There is a bundle of wires that prevents the entire top from lifting completely off, so lift it high enough to clear the plastic parts, then rotate it 180 degrees around and set it on something to support it.
  3. Lift the scanner head until it comes off the guide rod and disengages from the drive belt.
  4. Move the scanner head to the other end of the bed and reingage it onto the belt and guide rod - this is a little tricky to get the belt to pop back into the scanner head, but I got it to go by holding the belt firmly on either side of the head and squeezing both together.
  5. Replace top and all screws, pop control panel cover back into place.
  6. Rejoice in saving yourself lots of $$ and preventing more junk from entering the landfill!

SOURCE: Displays " Scanner Failure"

I've seen a similar issue on other HP All-In-Ones. I had to contact support, but all they do is make sure you try connecting the printer to the wall outlet instead of a surge supressor, then a different wall outlet, then reset to factory defaults. After that didn't work, they submitted an replacement order.

Hope this helps

You have a problem with your scanner, you should try reinstalling the drivers on your device, and also check on your manual if there is a prerequisite requirement regarding your scanner, in order for it to work properly.

How can I make my HP OfficeJet 7410 use the scanning wizard that is built into Windows instead of the software that comes with from HP?

As far as I know, windows provide a scanner configuration utilitie but no scanner software is include, you can scan from a Microsoft application but it will automaticly use the software and driver that came with your product.

Does not want to copy

that means its a scanner failure.in the warming up procedure the printer adjusts automatically to scan or copy mode.but the scanner failure does not let it do that.
there could be two possibilites either the scanner is failed due to some dust particles blocking the scanner to move forward.this could be repaired by servicing the printer internally.
or the scanner circuit is faulty so the scanner has to be replaced this will cost u nearly 60$ plus service charge.
thanks.

Scanner motor doesn't typically go out in these machines. If you are getting a scanner failure message, its either the scanner assembly or the main board.
