Question about Breville Die Cast 800ESXL Espresso Machine

2 Answers

Breville 800esxl Is the grounds holder/strainer supposed to be full of water after brewing an espresso?  I have tried all different degrees of tamping and get the same results.  It doesn't happen with the pods, though I'm not happy with the pod coffee so I don't use them.

I find that if I grind the coffee a bit more coarse, then load the filter basket quite full and tamp hard, I get awesome espresso, and the grounds are not watery. The quality of the coffee is better and is much more consistent than with finer grinds.

A card included in the operating manual indicates that this is normal. The Breville "Dual Wall Crema System" will do this. Visit www.breville.com for more information.

When I use the filter after a previous cup and it is still wet the coffee comes out very watery and undrinkable. When the filter is dry in the morning the coffee is perfect.

I'd suggest you try tamping with a bit more pressure, watery coffee is typically the result of water getting "around" the ground coffee as opposed to getting forced through it.

I've A Breville 800 esxl espresso machine.when making an espressothe machine starts leaking from the external slots outside coffee filter holder.what is the cause of it?

Breville brew head seals are rather difficult to locate, but I personally stock them for ESP8XL & 800ESXL machines and sell them at a reasonable cost. I sell lots of new and used parts for various coffee machines, but specialize in Krups and some Breville. If interested in purchasing a Breville brew head seal, contact me at cowboy_romeo@yahoo.com and I'll make arrangements. I accept Paypal to make the transaction safe and secure for us both.

How do I fix a leak from the coffee holder unit

Does it leak around the pod holder, or after the holder is removed?
It it is around then you need to replace the head gasket.
If it is after then the solenoid or the valve seat is damaged.

In standby mode water tank continued to completely

Try backwashing the machine with espresso machine soap. There might be something keeping the brew solenoid discharge open.

Knocked out spent coffe grounds come out mushy not like a puck

Adjust the grind on the machine, or the amount of coffee the grinder puts into the chamber.

Temperature adjustment?

the rear temp sensor is in charge of the brew temp. To increase the temp, lift sensor and clean out the thermal paste. To further increase, insert some fine metal mesh between sensor and boiler. The front senser is for emergency (overheat) cut off. Don't tamper! Brought to you by Jim Vonkas

Breville ESP8XL Espresso Machine Cafe Roma leaking.. help please..

We had that happen and it was a crack in the black ring that holds the filter. Breville could not supply us with one but we found an OEM part in aluminum from http://www.vancouverwireedm.com/caferomadiyt.htm. We received it 1 week after ordering. It was pretty easy to replace. Our machine works fine now.

BrevilleUSA.com has a silicon seal (steam ring) to replace faulty or worn ones. There is no shipping charge, and they are $4 each. To replace the steam ring you'll need to remove the stainless spray disk on the brew head with a phillips screwdriver (one screw) and pull off the old ring (pay attention to the direction and placement of the stainless disk).  Takes about 2 minutes to do.
Part # .800ESXL/192

Also, on mine I noticed that the filter holder was ground down at the factory a bit too much on one side, which causes a slight leak down one side (coffee, not water).  You might check the holder (with the filter removed) for imperfections that could lead to your leak. Good luck.

Everything sounds like its working...but nothing.

It sounds like your filter is clogged.  This can be tricky to unclog, but use the pin that came with the machine.  I have had the most success when I use the pin and try to run H20 (no coffee) through the filter basket.  Sometimes takes several tries, but eventually blows out the clog.
