Do I need to connect to my computer and install ma[ updates on my600LMT Navman, or does it do it automatically

You should be able to install your old map from the DVD/CD that originally came with your Navman - you don't need a Product Key for this, even if it prompts you for one.

It appears that the commercially available 2009 map for the S-Series does *not* cover the S30 3D, just the non-3D versions, although that's not at all obvious from what's on Navman's web-site, so you have my sympathies if you bought it expecting it to work...
