I have ahayward H1001D1 above ground pool heater running on nat gas has worked for 3 seasons with no problems last week heater started to make banging sound as if it was rapid cycling ichanged filter...

If your external by-pass is closed almost all the way then it will be your internal by-pass. You find this assembly inside the water manifold at the side of the heater. Part should be about 70-80 bucks.
It is suppose to regulate the water flow so it has time to heat but not boil. Yours is probally missing the control disc and letting all the water flow past the heater so the water in the heater is boiling and that is the banging you hear. Good luck.

I have A hayward heater H100IDEVERYTIME the heater kicks on it makes A clunking noise and the inlet hose shakes

Check your water flow and make sure your by-passes are set to send water threw the heater. That is to say shut off. The water in the heater is over heating and the clunking is the water turning to steam.

Hooking up a pool heater to propane.

A pressure regulator and pipe or hose. Whoever is selling you the tank/propane should be able to help you size everything based on the tank hook-up and tank pressure. The heater nameplate will tell you the proper inlet gas pressure that the regulator will need to reduce the tank pressure to.

Shaking H100ID Hayward Heater

You can try to get a welding shop to tack it back in place (I do not remember who to credit for that but it was not my suggestion) and see if it stops.

The exchanger is expensive as a DIY part...about $350...but if that is all that is wrong it is a lot cheaper than $700+ for a whole new unit.

My Hayward AG 100,000 btu heater ran well for the last two seasons. This season I hear a rattling type noise, and the hose that feeds the heater shakes at times. Other times the noise and shaking subside....

That plate should not move at all. If it is moving is is damaged. In the past that meant replacing the heat exchanger but I recently had someone tell me they took theirs to a radiator shop that tach welded the plate in place and it works fine now. Either way, the rattle is from water boiling in the unit due to poor flow through the heat excahnger. The plate we are talking about is what controls that flow.

1 year old hayward h1001d pool heater clicking

Actually, the clicking is likely causing the shaking. Inside the manifold of a H100 is a stainless steel diverter plate that send some of the passing water into the heat exchanger and lets the rest past and back to the pool. When it breaks, you will hear a 'clicking' noise at it rattles in the water path. When it breaks, the flow to the heat exchanger is intermittent and you will begin to boil the water, causing the shaking. This situation is dangerous, especially without a pressure relief in the heater or pipe. As long as your water chemistry is sound, Hayward will usually cover this under warranty even if the unit is over a year old.
