I have an 18 horse vanguard that was fouling plugs after short use. i took off the air cleaner and inspected the choke linkage and found that there is small line coming from the carburetor that doesn't attach to anything.Further back on the carb is a nipple that looks like it should have the same size line attached but it doesn't. the line faces away from the carb towards the front of the engine, is there something missing, like a valve that would attach to this line and then have another line back to this other carb nipple????

    Ok I attached the hose to the nipple behind it and the engine runs fine until I put the air cleaner back

    on. The filter is not new but I can see light through it, I tried just putting the air filter without the outer

    spongy ring but the results were the same. The engine will only run well without the air filter. Are these engines that particular that they wont run if the air fliter is not new??

Yes, this is a valve breather tube and would foul the plugs if not connected. If you connect it back up, it shouldn't have any problems. I would also take a torch and burn out the excess gas in the chamber. Let me know how this turns out.

    The air filter is dirty and the air can't get through it then, you need to replace it and then you should be set. You should be able to get one from the place you bought this unit from.

it,s not getting enough gas, your carburater needs cleaned and there's an mixture screw on most engine's hope this helps

Turn key to start and nothing happens. All lights are on, battery good. Doesn't turn over---nothing. Switch or starter or some kind of relay??? HELP!!!

I have a lot problems when i need to start the engine in my genesis 2.0 coupe why is this,,i took the car to the dealer but cant find a problem,they say battery is ok

Will only run with the full choke on


Check the fuel filter, air cleaner, and muffler for plugging. Inspect the fuel lines for decay or other damage. If no help, then the carburetor may need service. If you just obtained this saw, take it back for warranty repair or replacement. Good luck!

Oil in air cleaner


Run it minus an air filter until all the oil is off your piston head, you can also try keeping the plug out and ejecting the oil via that access by pulling the cord. It seems like you've already solved the problem, now you're just cleaning up.

When i open the throttle a little, the speed increases but at full throttle, the power drops and I lose speed. Admittedly, I bought the C/Saw from a market 'as seen' and I found a few problems like broken...


Basics to check:

1) Spark plug - brown or dark brown - OK
a) is it carbon or fuel fouled
b) is there spark


2) Muffler remove for inspection
a) exhaust screen clean or plugged
b) inspect cylinder wall/piston as the flywheel is slowly rotated

3) Check cylinder compression



Fuel starvation - 'lean fuel' condition

Basic things to check:
1) spark plug
2) spark arrestor in muffler
3) fuel lines and tank filter
4) turn adjustment needles out (counterclockwise) 1/4 to 1/2 turn
Chain Saws:
5) check impulse tube and intake boot for cracks or leaks

*if all of the above are OK and/or do not improve performance then:
Remove Carburetor
6) replace gaskets/diaphragms
a) use a spray carb cleaner to clean jets, holes, and body of carb
b) fuel pump diaphragm goes against the carb body,
then the gasket towards the outside
c) metering gasket goes against the carb body,
and the diaphragm goes towards the outside

Gets hot, sizes up.


Clean carb. Pull apart and soak in carb cleaner. Blow dry with air nozzle. Make sure air filter is clean and plenty of air. Make sure spark plug is not gapped wrong and running to hot. Make sure oil/fuel mixture is accurate
