VW golf fan running after engine stopped.

I have a VW golf petrol 2002 in Australia. since last week, the fan keeps on running after the car's engine is stopped. it runs for a while and obviously getting the power from the battery. This problem is random. Went to one auto electrician but at that time this did not happen and he could not find a solution because he could not replicate the problem. Also, since this problem is occuring, i have noticed that the car is not running normal. I can feel its not accelarating enough..
What could be the reason for this problem?

I have this exact same problem. Same year model as well. The temperature gauge on the dash doesn't seem to work and the fan comes on when the car is switched off. When the temperature gauge is working, the fan stays off and the car runs a lot smoother. Someone suggested this might be a problem with a cracked/broken water tank ? Expensive job if it doesn't turn out to be the cause. Need help! (previously have had the temperature sensor replaced but made no difference)

Some cars run the thermo fan until the engine temp sensor reaches below a set temperature regardless of whether the ignition is switched off, Im not 100% sure if the golf does this though? could be a problem with the engine temp sensor, might explain why the car isn't running correctly either.

If you drain out the gas from tank and fuel lines and turn over engine the old one may work without replacing engine . Call a good junk yard to veify fit of used engine and transmission .

I have a VW Golf 1.6L petrol car and the Engine Management warning light keeps coming on. My garage has so far replace both the lambda sensors and now suggests that it "probably is the cat converters"

go to an accredited service center that has experience on your make of car as the guessing is costing you money
the first thing that a professional shop would do is run the fault codes and then decide which codes were attributed to the problem
removing the fuses may cause more problems because you have no idea what the problem is and will never have any idea until the codes are read

Water pump is bad because overheats when engine is running at low speed, and good at high rev. The water pump impeller can not push the coolant with the required pressure.

Are all petrol tanks the same size or does it go on the size of ur engine .

Assuming you are asking are all Petrol tanks same size on VW Golfs... if thats the question then the answer is YES..The engine size does not affect the Petrol tank size only consumption (kilometers per litre/ or miles per gallon depending your location...assumed since you called it Petrol you are European) The different YEAR models would have different capacities and or shapes depending on configuration of the vehicle.. but the Golfs didnt go under much design change from 99-2002 so you should be safe if looking for a replacement.

No heat ,blows cold air

It is likely that the thermostat has failed and is stuck wide open as a failsafe. This jsut happened to me last week in my VW golf. Your engine will never come up to temperature but as long as the thermostat stays open it will not overheat either. Change the thermostat ASAP in case it the failsafe doesn't keep open and you overheat the engine.
