I dont think your model qualifies for FREE upgrades. Its probably too old compared to sonme of the models currently selling. Most times the upgrades are included in the initial price and allow for two major upgrades in the fiorst year After that it is pay as you go. try this link if you like but it referes to traffic updates for a different model. The W3 is almost not mentioned anywhere on Nextar sitehttp://www.engadget.com/2008/12/23/nexta...I dont think your model qualifies for FREE upgrades. According to Nextar that unit is no longer manufactured and considered a discontinued unit, sorry. I did find a link to their website for you. Either click on the link or copy and paste it into your web browser. On the bottom right side of the web page there is a .pdf that looks like a user manual. The link is below:
To update the existing map for your Nextar product, please contact
Nextar to find out if any new map information has become available. The
products are usually pre-loaded with USA/Canada maps, depending on the
model.
OR
Go to Nextar.com and select your model.
In the product manual it indicates there is a SD card slot, along with a USB port, so there is a physical method to change the map data to your locale. http://www.nextar.com/images/Product/W3G-01%20hardware%20manual-english.pdf
However, you should contact the manufacturer to see if their firmware allows you to change/add maps. Garmin GPS units have this capability, and I have used their topo & Road maps together with very good results for off-road adventures out in AZ & Utah.
You'll just need to call Nextar customer support and purchase the updated map then you can install it on your device. There's no free map download, you can only get it from them
Get a blank card, put it in your gps device, connecct to your computer, go to their website and download the maps you need. Mine stores everything inside itself. You might not even need the card. Just load the maps into the gps.
I HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH MY W3G-01. THE ERROR MESSAGE READS; CANNOT FIND MAP DATAFILES. PLEASE MAKE SURE THE STORAGE CARD IS PROPERLY INSERTED. I HAVE REMOVED CARD AND REINSURTED IT AND THE MESSAGE REAPPEARS.
