If by noise, you mean a loud, audible pop--then it's your lamp that imploded.
You should be able to just pop off the cover on the side (right side if you are facing the front of the set), remove the internal lamp cover (if present) and yank (I mean, gently pull) out your lamp.
Look for all the bright particles of glass inside your newly imploded lamp. Replace with a Sony original, as these sets can chew through generic lamps very fast.

The STANDBY light will flash if the television detects an issue within the
television. Some of these issues can be resolved simply by following the steps

If it does not give a picture at all not even for a moment, i would suspect a bad power supply, the circuit has quite a few components and either one of those could be giving you trouble.

I went to another tech site and saw a suggestion to unplug the TV for a couple hours and then plug back in to see if this helped, but they also indicated this could be a serious power problem. I was really concerned, but tried it and it worked! I think it was running some kind of diagnostics after the new lamp was placed. Back up and running!
