Question about KitchenAid KUDK03ITBK Built-in Dishwasher

The detergent dispenser opens but the cascade packet does not fall out and dissolve. Even when I used granulated detergent, sometimes it was coagulated in the soap cup at the end of the cycle - not dissolved.

This sounds like a lot of work just to get the detergent to dissolve. Do you mean I should pour hot water right into the dishwasher before I close it and start the cycle?

Most likely you aren't getting enough water into the machine before it starts running. Try adding a quart or so of hot water and see if it sounds like it helps the "swoosh" sound. If so, you need to replace your water inlet valve. If you remove the panel at the bottom of the dishwasher you will see
either a copper hard pipe, or a flexible steel hose leading into the
water inlet valve. BE SURE TO CUT OFF THE WATER SUPPLY. It is
probably located under the kitchen sink- just follow the water line
until you see a cutoff handle. The
    valve is activated by an
electromagnet- you will see a plug with two wires leading into the
cylinder shaped solenoid (the magnet). After turning off the water, and
disconnecting the water supply and the hose to the machine and the
wires (it's a tight space, so be patient) check and see if the screen
(just inside where the water supply line connects to the valve) is
clogged with limescale. If it is, you can clean it out fairly well with
CLR or Limeaway, and that might fix your problem. If it doesn't you can
order a new one online, or take it to an appliance parts store if there
is one in your area. They are pretty common. Good Luck!

We own a kitchenaid dishwasher kdfe104dbl. Was not dissolving soap. Tried everything suggested. Then called repairman. He said it was the control board, which he said was damaged because the garbage disposal was on the same circuit. $350 repair. Still did not dissolve detergent. After much googling discovered the switch for the detergent dispenser was faulty. It was dropping the tablet at the end of the cycle, or dribbling the liquid out at the end of the cycle. I put the tablet directly at the bottom center of the dishwasher and it dissolved and cleaned the load. For now adding detergent manually, in two weeks we will replace the dispenser, OEM Whirlpool Dispenser W10409521, although there is a newer part number we could have purchased...hoping this older part number was not replaced because it fails regularly?

I place the finish 2 in one tabs in the pre soak tray and that solved the problem. The red sphere is the pre soak, which gave me the idea. Not sure if it will work with cascade

Maybe that is a bit much... I thought of something else you might check... there is a screen at the bottom of the dishwasher... make sure it is clean so that water can keep recirculating.

The thing about adding water is that if you add the water at the beginning, it is going to circulate for 3 minutes or so and then dump out the water and attempt to refill. Most machines do a couple "rinse off" cycles before the soap dispenser opens and the machine washes the dishes for a long time. So you have to put the water in after you hear the dispenser "pop" open.

I'm not completely sure about the Kitchen Aid, but their might be a way to adjust the time that the water inlet valve stays open at the beginning of the cycle... you'll have to check your manual.

LG Inverter Direct Drive, at the end of the cycle there is a grey -white residue on everything, interior, glasses, pots n pans. We use Cascade packets and Rinse-aid. Please help!!

The packets usually have detergent and rinse aid together, built in. If you also have liquid rinse aid in the automatic dispenser, you are getting a double dose, and that is causing the film. Use standard dishwasher detergent until the automatic rinse aid dispenser is empty, or at least turn the pointer indicator (located by the rinse agent filler) to the lowest setting possible to help somewhat.

Powdered soap residue (cascade) sticks in the dispenser after dishwasher has completed wash cycle. I have tried the new gel pacs and they also seem to stick to the dispenser even after the the dispenser...

The best solution is to use the compressed powder cubes, the will fall to the bottom of the dishwasher as soon as the soap cup opens. New dishwashers use so little water that they dont do a good job of getting all the phosphate free detergent out of the cup. The cubes work fine and you will have no more residue

Some of the dishes are not getting clean, and the detergent packet is not disolving.

Be sure you're not blocking the detergent dispenser with dishes or pots & pans. If blocked, it won't open and the detergent will not dissolve. Put smaller items closer to the dispenser.

D/w doesn't dissolve deterg. & therefore not washing dishes

Do this test:
-Upgrade to a name brand detergent like Cascade or Electrosol.
-Do not over fill the dispenser cup
-Do not place large items near the door/near the dispenser cup.
-Make certain that both spray arms can spin freely after you load the dishwasher but before you close the door to begin the wash.
Please report back what you find, OK?

Tablet falls out & doesn't dissolve especially on fast cycle

Hi and wlecome...
You should not use anything other than powered dishwasher detergent in these products. They are not designed for tablet-style detergents. The reason is because the dispenser does not "open" during the wash cycle like you would see on a conventional dishwaser. The incoming water pours over the detergent and releases the mixture out the bottom of the dispenser. My soap won't dissolve during the cycle.

You are not getting enough water or you are losing the water during wash cycle. Is you dishwasher new or older? How is it plumbed in? If it is plumbed through the floor you will have to put and air gap in to keep the water in it. All tall tub dishwasher have to be plumbed properly.
