Remove the case and under the blades there will be a pinch clip holding the blades on. Squeeze it and the blades will come off.

Just hold the blade and use a sharp knife and cut the string. It's really not that hard!

My lasko fan stopped blowing air

The rotation gears have gotten clogged up, take it apart and put some grease or oil in the rotation parts/gears and work it in until it spins freely. Will work like a charge afterward. I had to do it once myself already.

Fan blade does not immediately spin when turned on; loud

The motor bearings need machine (like sewing machine oil).
Try a quick spray of WD40 or Liquid Wrench, but use machine oil, soon.
Look for an "oil hole" on top of the motor; there may be two of them.

Box fan

there should be whats called a thermal cutout or what some folks call a tempature fuse. Its inside the motor and Ive fould lots and lots of fans in the trash and simply jumped the thermal fuse with another one and they work great. Now you of course will have to take off the blade with the unit unplugged ans then take apart the motor. It will look like a small cylinder or bullet. there should be a marking on it that tell you what temp its rated for. Just be carefull as there still is the voltage hazards with a fan if it gets plugged in while its apart. Good Luck
