Question about Dometic NDR 1292 Refrigerator

2 Answers

My NDR 1292 Unit was working fine but I parked my motorhome on a 15 degree uphill for about 4 hours with the fridge running on gas. After that it would not cool. It does not work on gas or electric and I had a serviceman look at it and he feels unit overheated and now particles are in the orifice and only solution is to replace complete fridge. All piping remains at ambient, elect and gas systems appear fully functional and the evaporator temp is ambient. I understand now that one should not run fridge when parked on steep angle but is it possible to destroy a fridge that easily? The unit in in a National RV 2003 model and has only 30K miles on it. I sure would value your opionion before I lay out $5K for new one. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration. Regards, Tim Black

The electric elements are hot. I assume the gas burner is not used when in electric mode. Is that true? I have commercial AC ticket but these RV gas fridges a little new for me. Was told that even if out of level that this would in time would come right. I have been travelling through rockies up hill and down for 5 days since it failed and still no joy. I had ice in unit for use as cooler but even removed that and let all go to ambient thinking this might help relocate ammonia...assuming that is problem, ammonia in evap. Can you give me some addition things I might check. If you think cleaning burner might work then I will but thought that only for gas. Have you heard of complete fridge failure after parking on slope? Thanks Tim

Short answer NO! I have 2 fridges one in the RV 4WD and one in the caravan. Grantede the units will not light unless they are on level ground. However once alight they will work OK. But most times i use a leveler to check angle and can adjust the height of the towbar of the van by winding the jokey wheel. With the 4wd it is also 3 way 12v 240 and Gas. I use a one or two small portable plastic sloping ramps to back up to to level van when using gas.

As for getting the amonia back I had a friend who's fridge chucked itself and he removed it from its bay disconnected all the pipes and stood it on its head a few hours. replaced it and reconnected it and then used electric to start it up It has not stopped since ( 3 YEARS) and he uses leveler ramps like me now to maintain a reasonable level for lighting when on gas.

It is paramount that these gas fridges are level, u most likely need to clean the gas flame jets and the elements, the repair person may be right though about replacing it.

NDR 1292 - Was freezing/cooling on electric, but stopped freezingcooling, tried gas but doesn't freeze or cool

Since it does not work on either AC or gas - do you have DC to the unit? I have spent many hours troubleshooting a Dometic that turned out to be a corroded DC connection.

Make sure the condenser fan underneath the unit is running when the compressor is. I don't know what else it could be unless the door gaskets are in bad shape.

I have a Dometic fridg in my 2005 motorhome and when I start my f

You need to unpush the gas button on the front control. If the gas button is pushed in, then it is trying to run on gas and with the tank empty, it is unable to light. That is why the check light is coming on. If you turn the gas side off and have it on auto, it should switch to the AC side and work fine.

Hope this helps,

NDR fridge Cold on the Freezer side not the other side

If this started in Nevada i presume it was hot there. It sounds like you need a fan installed on the back to increase your air flow across the coils. The fan is much like the one on your computer.

AC,DC, gas RV fridge Dometic

You more than likely need to replace the control cable between the upper and lower board. It comes as a kit with the upper board. You can also do a bypass test by unplugging your thermoster from the circuit board. The thermoster is the temperature control for the refrigerator nothing to do with the freezer.
