Did the light on the charger indicate that it was charging? (Most also have a "replace battery" or similar light.)

If so, and the drill keeps beeping...since it's new don't bother monkeying with it. Just take it back to the store and have them replace it. Dealing with a warranty repair will leave you without a tool for some length of time.

A certain amount of sparking is NORMAL, especially while the brushes wear in and seat. Keep your warranty handy though !

I would recommend going to Dewaltservicenet.com and typing in your model number to get a parts explosion. If you get that and still have problems let me know along with the model number and I will try and help

if you use it every day, it would be normal for the battery to be at the end of its life. ni cads are usually good for 300 charges/discharges

No return it to a Dewalt service center for their Max Repair Rate. They will fix anything including batterys for a set amount, if it is less then you pay less. If not give me the exact model number and I will look into it.
