Espressione Retro has worked beautifully for a year, but now after
sitting unused for 2 months while I was away from home, very little
water will come through the head when I attempt to make coffee. Tried
the steam wand (to perhaps prime the pump and determine whether or not
it draws water) and that seems to work as normal,. The Machine just
doesn't get very much pressure of volume of water through the head.
Also can't see how to remove the shower head to clean and check for
clogs at that end of the system. Help?

A spanner, yes, that was kind of what I thought. Over the year since I first started having this problem, I have gotten the head unclogged by by running many tanks of water through the machine with an empty portafilter. And as a precaution, when I am making shots I have reduced the amount of coffee I put in the portafilter—2 level measures and no more. That seems to make a good double-shot with this machine...and no more clogs.
I had the same problem with mine. unfortunatly you will need a special tool to remove the diffuser head. It' a very small spanner wrench that turns the special screw. I was able to make a spanner out of a screwdriver, but I'm a toolmaker by trade. Your best bet is to have it done by a qualified repair service. Also, if you damage the screw, it's imposible to get parts from them.
