Agitates but does not spin at all (does drain)

Check the lid switch assembly: If the lid switch assembly is defective, the washer will not spin. To test the lid switch for continuity, use a multimeter. If the lid switch does not have continuity, replace it.

Inspect the drive belt: If the drive belt is broken or loose, the washer will not spin. Inspect the drive belt for signs of wear or damage. If the belt is damaged, replace it.

Examine the motor coupling: The motor coupling connects the motor to the transmission. If it is broken, the washer will not spin. Inspect the motor coupling for signs of wear or damage. If it is damaged, replace it.

Check the clutch assembly: The clutch assembly engages and disengages the transmission with the tub during the spin cycle. If it is worn or damaged, it may prevent the washer from spinning. Inspect the clutch assembly for signs of wear or damage and replace it if necessary.
If these troubleshooting steps do not lead to resolution, you may have to resort to a professional repair service.

Whirlpool cabrio model # wtw5500xw1. Horrible screeching noise when it goes into spin, then shuts off

Since I don't have the service manual for this model- I'm unsure if this is a direct drive motor to transmission or belt driven through pulleys.

In first scenario motor bearing is shot

Belt driven model, belt is worn or derailed from pulley

3rd reason, clothes could be stuck between spin drum and tub assembly, causing the spin drum to jam.

How to remove model 917.378691 gear case assembly

You will need to start by removing the wheel assemblies. They are held in place with spring clips. Next remove the "c" clips that hold the drive gear assemblies. Be very careful to keep them together and not lose any small pieces. Next remove the height adjuster. You will see the tension sping, remove it from the transmission, this allows you to rotate the transmission and remove the belt. Then remove the nut on the bottom of the transmission. The transmission will then be loose. Remove the drive cable and there you have it.

Wont drain. It looks like the pulley that is at the bottom of the pump assembly fell off (the belt came off as well). Can this be re-attached? I didn't find any screw near where the pulley fell.

The pump does not have a belt driven pulley.
The motor and transmission both have pulleys. My guess it's from the transmission

Check out the diagram labeled TRANSMISSION and look at the parts listed below it.
You can order a complete bearing and pulley kits from Sears:

I have a maytag proforma washer, model pav236aww. washer will fill with water but will not agitate and makes a loud noice. Thought it was a belt issue so we replaced the belt. Still have the same issue...

HI. The culprit will be the transmission. it has locked up, due to gear failure. The necessary actions are to replace the entire transmission assembly. The part number for your new assembly will be 35-6615. I have also included the necessary service manual that will guide you through the replacement procedure, as well.

Click here to access the service manual for your unit.

CHANGING A BELT ON AMANA MODEL # ALW990EAW/PALW990EAW

To replace a washer belt, remove power, remove back panel. On the left side is the motor, clutch, pump and belt. The pump is driven by a coupler clamped to the pump and clutch assembly. Loosen one of these clamps enough to move the coupler away so the old belt can be slipped past the coupler and also to facilitate the new belt to be installed. The belt runs in a pulley built into the top of the clutch assembly and can be "run" onto the transmission pulley very easily. To adjust the belt tension, pull out the washer, tilt it back against the wall......there are 3 nuts and bolts holding the motor assembly to the bottom frame, loosen these nuts off, the holes on the motor bracket are oval shaped so the motor assembly can be moved back and forth. You can move motor to tighten or loosen the belt, just make the belt fairly snug and don't over tighten it.
