Non Disk error... Compaq HP NC6400 3 Gb ram 120 Gb S ata hdd toshiba 1.83 Ghz Intel Core _____________________ well everything happened as the lamp above our table in the living room fell on my laptop while it was running with music... it made a sound like a DJ is scrapping with his LP's..and shut down... after trying to restart it, the laptop could'nt boot windows 7 RC.... BIOS looks ok but as i tried to run the reading of the hdd in the bios it could'nt read the hdd. I testet the HDD on my desktop through the cable from my external 2,5" hdd, and was able to read the hdd. then i took my external (western digital 150Gb s-ata) hdd out of the caddy and installed it into the laptop to see if it would work...through windows 7 installation it can recognize the hdd and see the partitions, but after trying to install on any pertition its not possible... so my question is what could have taken damage in my laptop or could something be loose? the bios seems ok the hdd seems ok it looks for me like some cable between the motherboard and the hdd that could be loose or? hope anyone has a good idea...thanks Henrik

Boot sequence checked made it boot the hdd first. No USB device are connected...even it was changed to sata native.. what about ecp epp or two ways?
both hdd work fine if not connected to the laptop. in the first place it would recognize the hdd but not write on it...now it even cannot find the hdd....non-system disk error...etc..
could it be a loose part well i am goin to take the whole bottom out today and see if something lokks loose...what could be wrong? i mean a lamp fell down on the computer while the hdd was running...the chassis is okey could something have gone loose oof this sudden big "vibration"?

I have tryied to plug it into another computer seems okey, and i can read the disk, even i tryied to plug another hdd into the laptop...but i would not recognizer the hdd... test readign the disk in the bios made no succes....but now i can clean the disk/hdd throug the bios so i ccould call that a progress....

i tried diskclean wich can be done through the bios...it stopped at 78 % after that no other computer would even recognize the hdd...so it wount even recognize it at all...all this because the lamp fell down on the laptop :-(

Check the boot sequence in BIOS and make sure that you no usb device connected to your computer and also try to change you Sata mode in BIOS and see if that works.

Well it's really diffcult to say yet, if ou could take out your hard drive and plug it int some other computer and see if that works, or you can try doing chkdsk /r/p on your hard drive if you could make it secondry hard drive on some other computer. If HDD is showing in BIOS that means there should be no problem in detection otherwise it could have give you an error during POST.Most probably it could be a hardware fault.

    Here is solution

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812492

It might be that NTLDR is misising, try to format your hard drive fo that you can use a fdisk utility. or do it from other hard drive. Try reinstalling OS on your system

You need a Bigger HDD, you need another Motherboard capable of at least Core 2 Dual Core, or better, plus at least 4 GB or DDR RAM. Really be best to sell that PC, and use the money to build your own.

CLEAN HARD DRIVE

A great tool for a non destructive computer clean is tuneup utilities 2009.

If you want to wipe the machine, backup any important files, Backup your computer's drivers (if you don't have them on cd).
Then pop your windows disk in and run it, in windows, it should take you through everything. Allow about 2 hours.

Hope this helps,
Tom
