Unfortunately, the housing is glued together.

I took mine apart with a hammer and screwdriver only to find that the entire input, valve and output assembly is one piece.

Even if you find a new threaded ring to install, it seems unlikely success could be obtained in terms of replacement.

Bummer - why is everything built to end up in a landfill?

A meal threaded faucet inlet piece would have avoided my need to discard this unit.

We have a Vigoro Two Zone Water Timer. The timer started beeping and flashing that the batteries are low. We put new batteries in and it is still beeping and flashing low battery. What do we do now?

The timer is no good.
1) Clean battery terminals and make sure battery polarity is correct.

2) If you bought timer at Home Depot, call:
Internet Customer Service Center at 1-800-435-4654

3) If you live near Home Depot, then buy new timer and return defect timer in new package.

4) Here's what Home Depot customers say about this timer: the product will fail after 4 months, only worked one season, failed right out of box, new batteries did not restore functionality, etc. Only two good reviews.

I have 2 Vigoro 196-036 watering timers. Why does water come out of the three holes near the battery compartment on one of them?

It comes out of the holes because the water goes in the holes. That might sound dumb but Vigoro designed these only to be in dry conditions, such as attached to the water line. I used them for sprinklers, but the water poured into the timer so bad it shorted it out in a week. I did find a vigoro timer with no holes and a sealed unit, and they work great. But I can't find them anymore.

Do I turn the faucet on fully?

Yes, when using an inline water timer, it does not control the pressure of the water, only the "on/off" of the pressure. So make sure to keep the faucet at the pressure you want the drip system set at as if you weren't even using a timer.

Water is trickling out

No. Check to make sure the battery is good. If so, and you just purchased the timer, take it back.
