Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators
Couple things to check... it sounds like one of two problems.
1. Does it continue to cylce without any water in it? If it is still cycling, I would look toward the water inlet valve at the back of the unit. I have seen these water valves get "stuck" but become unstuck temporarily when the power is cut off for a while. They are cheap and easy to replace, and if it still doesn't work, some places (like repairclinic.com will let you return the part- even if you used it).
2. The gears and motor inside the icemaker are getting stuck- perhaps because moisture got in and froze, or perhaps the wiring inside the icemaker isn't connecting properly to "call" for water from the inlet valve.
