Pny Optima Attache Flash Drive suddenly locked

Had used it for several months and then one day it won't let me add any files. Says the drive is write protected. I can get my files off, but nothing goes on or can be deleted.

Thanks for the suggestion. This is a Pny Optima Attache 2GB. I cannot find any slides on it anywhere. There usually is one, but if it's on here, I don't know where it is. Good suggestion though.

Thanks for the suggestion. That's the first thing I looked for. I cannot find a slider anywhere on it. Even took it apart and examined the circuit board. Just no luck. Good suggestion though.

Found it! I have a feeling one of my co-workers (A Linux God who disdains us Windows Gurus) was playing a joke on me. The following came from David Kramer.KA athttp://davidkramer.wordpress.com It fixed it completely. Thank goodness!

Open the command line editor of windows XP (in my case, and in that case hopefully your, if I am to help you). You find that under ?Start?, the choose ?Run?. There you enter ?regedit?. This starts a little program that allows you to operate within the holiest of sites of windows, the registry. Here all kind of actions and behaviors of the system are set.

    Go to the path:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\
    CurrentControlSet\Control \StorageDevicePolicies

This is simply a folder within a folder and so on? The final folder, the one you are looking for is called StorageDevicePolicies, and as the name suggests contains the settings for how the storage devices (USB flash) should behave.

Here you right click on: ?WriteProtect? and select ?modify?. Here you set the value that appears to ?0″. Press enter and that?s it. (In other words: Default value: DWORD=0)

    Possible values are:
    0 ? Disabled
    1 ? Enabled

Set the value to 0 and your back in business.

Look for a slider on the flash drive, I had a pny flash drive that had a slider that when enabled would protect the flash drive from accidental erasure or modification of the files.

Hi
Please follow these steps
1. I think its not a problem with flash drive.
2. There should be virus in your computer.
3. Please install anti virus or if it is already there update it.
4. I think that virus is deleting your files in the flash drive.

4GB Attache flash drive says it's locked.

Plug in the stick. wait for it to come up on the desktop then click on it once. (do not open it).
From the file menu select "Get Info"
In the panel that opens up you will see a row of coloured squares. Underneath is a checkbox marked "Locked"
Is it empty or ticked?
If it's ticked, untick and see what happens in disk utility. If it's not ticked that then would appear to be a problem with the stick.
For what it's worth, I did a google on this stick and found that there are numerous posts about it becoming read only on Vista, so it may well be a problem with the manufacturer.

LLFTOOL is a utility for low-level disk drive formatting,
also supports formatting of FLASH cards using a card-reader.

1. Download this tool:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4040651/LLFTOOL.EXE

2. Format

(WARNING: After running this low level format tool,
the whole USB flash disk surface will be fully erased.
Therefore, data restoration will be impossible after using this utility!)

You may need to uninstall your USB port drivers thru the Windows Device Manager and reboot . Windows will see your USB ports when it restarts and reinstall the drivers which will include support for flash drives including Pny flash drives.

PNY Optima Attache 4g Flash Drive

Change the drive letter of the pny drive to another letter, different than that of your accounting package. Right click "My Computer" click "Manage" select "Disk Managment" right click the drive, select "Change drive letter and Path" and then change the drive letter to something not used on that computer.
