So, your solution is to copy and paste the information that's already available from Canon on their web site? Good job.

This is an old post, but I can tell anyone looking for a solution on an error 6500 that most likely you need a new main board, and it's also possible that your print head is dead. We often see either the main board short and kill the print head, or the print head shorts and kills the main board. Since we are never there when the fault first occures, which comes first is just a guess. However, I can tell you we have blown NEW heads by plugging them into boards with this error, and we have killed a used board (two actually) by plugging a head from a machine with this fault into another machine for a test. This killed the main board in the other machine (lucky for us it was a junker, but the board was worth money). Canon cahrges so much for their main boards that it's just not worth replacing the main board once a machine goes out of warranty.

Anyone reading this note that expansive all-in-one bubblejets like this are one of the few things worth purchasing an extended warranty for.

Why can't I scan, print or do anything? There is no error code.

Patti, you may have to do a hard reset.
1) Disconnect the USB cable from your computer
2) Remove the ink cartridges
3) Unplug the power cord. Wait for a couple minutes. Plug the unit back in,hit power button if needed.
4) Wait for the "Insert Cartridges" message, reinstall the cartridges
5) Close printers doors
6) If you get a recalibration message, allow the printer to complete this task
7) Reconnect printer to USB cable
8) Try your printing again.
Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Canon MP830 geting error 6500

The error indicates a service error code with your printer, typically caused due to internal error in one of the ASIC chips on the logic board of your printer, and may only be repaired by replacing the logic board at an authorized Canon service center, and should be done for free if your printer is still under warranty.

Error code 6500

*Error Code - [6500]

*Conditions - The PCI bus error is detected by the ASIC.

*Solution (Replacement of listed parts, which are likely to be faulty) - Logic board ***'y

The service error 6500 refers to "other hardware error". This error results from printer hardware failure & nothing much can user do instead of replacing the malfunctioning hardware. 6500 is generally logic board error code. If the printer is under warranty, you better ask for replacement.
