Hi,

Can you pleas ensure that you have cleaned the unit as well. If it is not broken, that would be the probable cause. You can ask your local fire dept. to assist. They do that for free :-)

SOURCE: How to replace battery back-up in hard-wired

Those battery holders are not easy to find on that model. However, look for a small screw on the outer perimeter of the detector. That's the door that needs to removed to replace the back-up battery. Some models don't have the screw, but can be popped open with gentle pressure using a flat tip screw driver.

Hope that helped to solve your problem.

The chirping is definitely the low battery warning. Are you sure the battery you put in was good? I would definitely double check the battery using a meter.

SOURCE: My hard wired smoke alarm has had a new 9 volt battery installed and even a second new one installed and is still chirping 4 times every 30 seconds.

On many of the newer smoke alarm installations, all of the units are wired together so that if one goes off, it triggers all of the others so that no matter where you are you will definitely hear the maddening noise of the alarms! And if one of the other units has a bad or weak battery not only will it chirp but so will the others.

Only way around this is to cut any and all wires going to each smoke detector. They will still work because each has its own battery but there will be no more triggering of other units.

HOW DO I REPLACE BATTERY ON FIREX FX1218

BATTERY REPLACEMENT Always turn off power to smoke alarm before replacing battery.
Replace battery at least once a year, or immediately when the low
battery signal sounds (a beep once per minute indicates low bat-
tery). Batteries should be replaced regularly as necessary, even
when the smoke alarm is receiving AC power.
Use only the following batteries as replacements in this smoke alarm: Eveready 216, 522, 1222, Duracell MN 1604, or Ultralife U9VL-J [Alkaline batteries 9Volt] DO NOT USE RECHARGEABLE
BATTERIES.

1. Turn off power to smoke alarm at main service panel.
2. Turn smoke alarm counter-clockwise to detach from mounting plate.
3. Gently pull down smoke alarm. Be careful not to separate wire
connections.
4. Pull out power plug from back of smoke alarm.
5. From back of smoke alarm, lift tab to open battery pocket door.
6. Remove battery from pocket. Disconnect and discard bad battery from battery connector.
7. Connect a fresh, 9-volt battery to connector. The battery will fit
only one way. Be sure battery connector is securely attached to
battery terminals.
8. Place battery into battery pocket.
9. Close battery pocket door. Push down until it snaps into place.
10. Replace connector plug. Connector will "snap" into place.
Gently tug connector to be sure it is attached properly.
11. Reattach smoke alarm to mounting plate by turning smoke
alarm clockwise until it snaps into plate.
12. Turn on power and test smoke alarm using Push-to-Test button

New smoke detector, new batteries, red light flashing is that normal

copied from the manual, available at the kidde website

RED AND GREEN LED INDICATORS This smoke alarm features separate red and green LED indicators. The LEDs indicate the following: GREEN LED CONSTANT ON - AC power is present. OFF - AC power is not present. RED LED - Can be seen through the Push-to-Test button. Blinks once a minute - Indicating presence of a working battery. Blinks once a second - Smoke alarm senses smoke and simultaneously sounds an audible alarm. Blinks once every 10 seconds - Smoke alarm is quieting an unwanted alarm (Model ADC only). (Interconnected system only): OFF - Another smoke alarm in the network has sensed smoke and is signalling this alarm.

My alarms go into test mode by themselves about every hour, what can I so to correct the problem?

The detectors have a 9 volt battery back up. The batteries should be replaced every year. If you haven't replaced them recently, that is probably the problem.

I have the Firex i4618, after changing the battery it continues to chirp, have tried 2 new Duracell proper model batteries with same result.

Smoke Detecotrs have a limited lifespan of 5-7 years. So sounds like you need new one (Its not worth to buy just a sensor). Take a look on amazon Amazon: Amazon com Smoke Alarm. I hope this helped you. Have a nice day

My new Firex 21007581 with a new battery keeps chirping. What is the problem and how do I fix it? Thanks Sal

He said it had a new battery so he already did that and why would you service a $12 throw away smoke alarm? This FIREX he identified is the 4618 and will also chirp while the LED light blinks, chirp is about 30 seconds after blink if the unit itself needs to be replaced because there is something wrong with it as opposed to a different chirp pattern for battieries. If still unerwarrantee FIREX will replace otherwise go buy a new one.
