Garmin Nuvi 660 GPS Receiver

My Garmin 680 bluetooth stopped working w/ my LG... (by 6 users)

posted by XL4023 on Nov 22, 2007

I bought my GPS just few weeks ago. At first, it paired up w/ my LG vx8600 nicely. Now it just stopped working after 2 weeks. I did the Webupdate, reboot, but still it no longer pairs with my phone or any other phones (I tested 2 others). My phone's bluetooth is fine with other devices.
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!!!!
Shirley
p.s. the Webupdate did say my 680 already has the latest software.

I followed tips from GPSPassion.forum who had similar problems w/ Garmin Nuvi 660/680.
Now my Nuvi connects to my LG vx8600 instantly without any further problems.
Here's the tip: Make sure your cell phone is turned on FIRST.
Turn Nuvi on AFTER your mobile phone is on, Nuvi will locate phone's
bluetooth and you will see the "telephone icon" displays on the Nuvi.

Note: If Nuvi is on (either navigating or stand by mode) and you turn on your cell phone,
the Nuvi's bluetooth will not work. In this case, you must turn off your Nuvi and then turn it back on.
p.s. I hope I am not confusing anyone.

I did the following steps and my Nuvi 680 bluetooth is working good now.
Please try these:

Thank you for contacting Garmin International, I am sorry that you are having this issue. You may need to reset your
BlueTooth:
1) From the Nuvi main "Where To?" screen, tap "View map"
2) On the map screen, tap the "speed" indicator in the lower left corner of the screen.
3) On the next screen, there is a large round speedometer (mph) near the top center of the screen. Press and hold on the center of the speedometer until the screen changes to a diagnostic mode that says "Shutdowns" at the top.
4) Press "Next"at the bottom of the screen repetitively until you come to a screen that says "Bluetooth statues" at the top...
5) On the Bluetooth Statues screen, press "Updt PR" button in the lower right corner. The screen should show "Do you really want to update the Bluetooth firmware?"... Press "yes"... Let the unit sit for several minutes. It should show "Updating Bluetooth on the screen. When it is complete, it will return to the "Bluetooth Statues screen.... Press "Quit" in the lower left corner... Then return to the main "Where To?"
screen and try enabling and paring the Bluetooth again?.
Additionally, it is best to pair the devices from the cell phones menus and pairing procedures, instead of from the Garmin device......
Note: before re-pairing the Nuvi to your cell phone, make sure you remove the nuvi device fr your cell phone first, then add device. If your nuvi bluetooth still fails after you do this step, then your nuvi bluetooth file maybe corrupted. You will need to download this file and reinstall it to your Nuvi. Plz let me know, I'll show you how to zip the bluetooth file.

I had a similar problem on a Nuvi 310 and used the diagnostics routine as described on this forum. My problem was that the Nuvi did not have sound however the devices paired.

Using the reload as discribed solved the problem, thank you.

After I have synced my Nuvi with my iPhone, all works well for about a week. Then I am forced to re-sync. Recently I had to re-sync two days in a row. Then it will behave again for a while. What can I do?

My 1 moth old Nuvi 680 now goes into Bleutooth disabled mode automagically. When I try to enable the bluetooth, it just locks up and needs to be rebooted. Worked fine for the first month

Amazing how many others are having connectivity problems. My 660 was only 48 hours old when it decided it didn’t want to play with my Blackberry 8310 anymore. Connected (and stayed connected) fine for the first two days. Now it connects but disconnects after 30 seconds. I have tried a soft reboot, full reboot, repairing many times, letting my phone find the 660 first and then paring, updating via WebUpdater, ect. I have concluded there is nothing the user can do, it’s a Garmin fix. Of course it quit working on the weekend. Unless someone has found a way to keep the connection for more than 30 seconds I’ll contact Garmin Monday and wait several days for a possible fix.

I have found the only thing that works thus far is to click on the red phone in progress icon then go to "call options" then click transfer audio to phone, then transfer audio to nuvi. Sometimes I have to do this twice. but it works.
