I have a scag zero turn with a kawasaki motor, but I cannot find any markings on the motor to help me find parts. The scag mower has a tag on it, serial#852 1539 can you help at all!

well its back to the fule flow,,,i thing the fule lines and carb are blocked up and needs a strip down and a good clean up of all the jets and flote bole this sounds like fule shortage,,,if the engine is only just turning and you try to put it in gear so the cutters start to turn it loads the engine up and it stops!
you say pulling the choke out get it going!!!!! then its short of fule ,,,right!

This sounds like a main jet issue. What is a concern is I presume it was okay, before, so that would mean jet restrictions....

Try turning main jet richer or leaner by 1/4 turn and test again...Otherwise, carb surgery will be needed.
