Question about Amana Washing Machines

1 Answer

As soon as the water begins to fill into the machine it leaks it all out, and the spin cycle is very noisy, the hoses aren't leaking going into the machine, it seems to leak mostly out of the back, but also from the front, and it seems to rotate slower during the wash cycle. The clothes come out smelling like they are dirtier than when they went in, but the clothes are the usual amount spun (not sopping wet).

My maytag mtw5600tq1 washer won't hold water. Its

Hi,
Its sounds like you have a siphon going on, this happens when the drain hose it too low during fill and as the water enters the unit it exits through the drain hose. To stop this the drain hose needs to be higher than the tub itself, meaning: raise the drain hose behind the washer to about control panel area. This will or should stop the siphon effect and allow the water to remain in the tub. If the drain hose is low this siphon will start again.
I hope this helps

Hi, we have an F & P GWL11 with a water leak. Have checked all the basic stuff. Hoses, Inlet solenoid etc. No obvious leaks. Tipped machine over and checked and cannot find source of leak. There is a...

Hi Alan.Just read your posting. Now the water on the lip of the cabinet when the machine is laying on its side is from the tank so this will not be the leak. This water on the lip happens every time I tip a machine over on its side.If you have checked the inlet hoses and the black drain hose (when the machine is draining the water) and the inlet solenoids (by removing the top panel and viewing them fill) then I think the only other place is your main tank seal is faulty.Try a wash cycle and after the machine has finished its cycle the look under the machine by leaning it up against the back wall and look towards the center. You will see a round bowl that is colored gray. This is your motor. Now with a torch see if there is any water on it or around it.This should tell you if it is leaking throe the main seal.Has you machine been noisy on the spin cycle? Please reply with additional information on the water on the motor (if any) and whether you have checked all the hoses and solenoids as described.Looking forward to your reply.

Water laks on fill up cycle

Sounds like the rubber fill hose that attaches to the outer tub in the machine has become unhooked. The water from either hot or cold won't make any difference.. it's the hose that actually attaches to the tub. This is fairly common if the machine has been filled to max capacity and during a spin cycle an article of clothing can spin past the hose and knock it out of it's intended location.
You'll need to open the manchine and check the rubber flange on the hose, if it's not damaged you can simply reinstall into the tub. Otherwise, a simple swap out of the hose will get the problem solved.. diagrams are available at repairclinic.com

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Check the area for the motor and pump.

If you've checked the hoses to and from the pump the problem points to either the pump itself or to the Centerpost gasket.

Neither of these is too difficult to replace, the Gasket requires removing most parts of the washer although the pump is an easy replacement.

Amana washer model LW6501W2 leaks in front during fill up

It leaks Your washer can develop several types of leaks. You can track down a leak based on when it occurs:

During fill only
During drain and spin only
All the time
During fill only If the washer leaks only during the fill cycle, check these:

  • Air-gap device -The air gap is a small device found on most washers that prevents the wash water from being siphoned into the household water supply. It's located either mid-way along or at the end of the black rubber hose that comes from the water-inlet valve. Often it's made of translucent plastic. If one of the air-gap components deforms or cracks, you may need to replace it.

  • The tube -There's a rubber tube that runs between the water-inlet valve and either the air-gap or the inlet spout. If it cracks or breaks, it can cause a leak.

  • Inlet spout -Most washers have a plastic spout near the top of the main clothes tub that directs the water into the tub. If the spout cracks or breaks free of its mounting, it can cause a leak.

During drain and spin only A washer that leaks only during the spin cycle often has a leak in the main drain hose. Inspect the entire hose and correct any problem you find. Alternatively, the steel or plastic outer tubs can rust, split, or be punctured. This may be most visible during large loads and high water levels. If this happens, you may have to replace the entire outer tub--but that may not be an economical repair to make. Consult a qualified appliance repair technician for further details.

All the time If the washer leaks all the time, check these:

  • Hot and cold water fill hoses - Check the hot and cold water hoses from the household plumbing. If either hose is leaking, tighten it or replace it, as appropriate.

  • Main tub seal - The main tub seal is located between the transmission and the outer tub. It's the primary water seal in the outer tub for the transmission-shaft entry point. If this seal leaks, you can see the leak by opening up the machine's main access panel while the machine is full of water with a small amount of detergent in it. The leak appears at the underside of the outer tub, at or near the center. This seal is difficult to replace. You probably should call a qualified appliance repair technician.

  • Pump - If the pump leaks, you can probably spot the leak when the tub is full of water. The pump has two or more black rubber or plastic hoses attached to it and usually has a drive belt that spins the pump. If the pump is leaking, you need to replace it.

  • Outer tub - Over time, the steel or plastic outer tubs can rust, split, or be punctured. If this happens, you may have to replace the entire outer tub--but that may not be an economical repair to make. Consult a qualified appliance repair technician for further details.

Is there water inside the tub after it starts leaking? If so the valve that lets the water into the machine could have a bad seal and overfilling the machine with water when it is not being used. Or one of your water hose seals could be leaking. Make sure the hoses are tight. Beyond that there is nothing to cause a profuse amount of water when the machine is not being used.
