I don't think you can unless you format the system (this will delete ALL information including game saves). I personally have never done that so it might not work. Why would you want to delete the firmware though? If it's for Homebrew the last time I checked you could still homebrew on the latest update.

Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

Here's a link to this great service

Good luck!

Wii downgrade

Very difficult. Wii's in general are mostly all different and act differently. To answer your question though here is a link:

You will need an SD card for the simplest time.

After turning it on and pressing button A on start up screen I'm getting a message that the software has been corrupted. What do I do?

Rent a game that provides a firmware update. When you insert the game before hitting that screen it should install the firmware and overwrite whatever corrupt data on your system.
Any new Nintendo brand game should do it. Wii Mario Kart is a recent one. A Wii Motion Plus game should do it as well.

When we turn on the wii and it tells you to push A, the Wii doesn't respond. I checked the sensor bar using a digital camera and see 5 lights, so it looks like its working

I assume your talking about the "press A" at the language screen? Have you modded the machine with a chip or loaded home brew? Did you recently receive a firmware update from Nintendo?

If your still under warrantly, Nintendo will fix this for you. It sounds like it is fully bricked.

I have one in the same situation but mine is no longer warrantied. Got it when it first came out. I am told you may be able to fix a full brick by loading the firmware from a game in maintenance mode. Mine has nearly the latest firmware so I am waiting for a game with a newer firmware to become available.

To get into maintenance mode, you have to plug in a joystick in the first port and press up/down at the same time. I personally found that to be impossible but it is very easy to do if you have a dance dance pad.

Downgrade wii from 4.0 to 3.4 or lower

The Following Steps assume you have the Homebrew Channel:

STEP 1- Load Wad Manager from the Homebrew Channel (hbc) and install

STEP 2- Load Custom Wad Manager from hbc and install "cios-fix.wad"

STEP 3- Load IOS Downgrader from hbc. Follow all directions until it tells you
that it has been completed. **KEEP IN MIND that this is different from
"cIOS Downgrader"!**

STEP 4- Load cIOS Downgrader from hbc **KEEP IN MIND that this is
different from "IOS Downgrader"!**

-For example: 3.2U= USA/Canada; 3.2E= Europe; 3.2J=Japan

-OPTIONAL: You may choose another system firmware other than 3.2
if you want. My intention is to help guide you to downgrade to 3.2.
Remember that System Menu 3.2 is considered the 'ideal' firmware
for homebrew (if not all) to work properly.

STEP 5- (You may skip this if you wish) At this point you should be on System
Menu 3.2 (or other firmware). You may check your Wii settings to see
for yourself.

~~Again if your NOT in System Menu 3.2 you will not be able to do Step 6~~

STEP 6- Load Starfall from hbc. After reading the discalimer you will be
instructed to press B+1 instead of B+2. Press B+1 to continue on to
the next screen.
-As of version 0.5 Starfall has 8 options/patches to the Wii in which
you can install. The last 3 are the most important ones. Some people
just install everything which is fine.

-STARFALL comes with these options (the ones in red are the important ones):

~Replace healthwarning with back menu
~Region free GC games with video mode patch
~Region free Wii Games
~Region free channels
~No Mainmenu BGM (Background Music)
~Start rescue-menu when Y is held on 1st GC controller (Usefull for
recovering bricks)
~Remove rescue-menu diagnostic disc check
~Skip disc update check

Congratulations you have successfully downgraded your Wii along with
a rescue menu if have accidently bricked your Wii.

Can't get into wii settings

Hi there, I have uploaded a file on the following link copy the file which fits your Wii (Japanese or US or Europe) and use Winrar to open the ISO file. Then burn the iso file onto a DVD with low speed like 2x. Then, insert the DVD into your Wii and play the game like normal, it will ask for software update and click yes. Then take out the DVD and check your Menu setting, it comes back.
