Look inside with a flashlight and look for any obstructions in the tape cavity, like cookies, pb&j sandwiches, army men, etc...
If no obstuctions look for broken plastic guides/levers etc...
You could always carefully open it up and see if you can't watch it load a tape to see if it is doing everything it should but that could be dangerous because of the voltages present in the TV. Would probably be best for a repair person.
Also sounds like the machine does not know there is a tape there, there should be a lever that gets pushed by the tape to trigger the sensor or switch that tells the machine there is a tape in the cavity, maybe it's stuck or broken, you would have to investigate.
Given the price of these times of combo machines these days, probably not worth getting it fixed, would probably cost more than a new one.

I specialize in repairing these particular compaq units and they all have the most terrible quality just being thrown together, but if someone took the time to inspect everything inside the computer and make sure it was properly connected and organized and functional then there would be no problems. Therefore I get like 3 of these computers a month.

Your WII graphic chip is messed up.. It'll have to be replaced or reflowed to be fixed. Look online for "Reflowing Nintendo DS"
Or contact the place you bought it from to be directed to warranty
