Question about Avanti Kitchen Ranges

The oven temperature of my Avanti stove, model G24AW-1, isn't accurate. How can this be adjusted so that the actual temperature will correspond to the temperature setting?

    Hi,

    The manual's Troubleshooting Guide says the following with regard to "oven temperature is inaccurate":

    Possible cause and how to fix it:
    Oven capillary bulb not positioned properly - Verify that capillary bulb is snapped in clips straight and not touching sides or coated with over cleaner or food;
    Temperature control not set properly - Make sure the temperature control knob is set at the desired temperature;
    Improper use of foil - Keep foil clear of holes in over bottom and off of oven racks;
    Vent blocked - Keep vent at rear of backguard clear;
    Range not set for appropriate gas input - See range conversion section in this manual.

    Does this give you any further information upon which to give me some guidance before I undertake to find and adjust the temperature control?

These models all have a 'calibrate' function built into the menu. You will have to refer to the owners manual for step by step instructions. It's fairly simple to do. This function will allow you to bring the temp. of the oven up and then set it to the actual temperature it's at inside. You will need an oven type thermometer to observe inside the oven. Set it in on a rack and watch it, then go through the calibrate steps.

    Try to locate the Oven capillary bulb (see photo) and make sure it's clean and not touching anything like the manual says to do. It's possible that the thermostat itself , which is the body of the thing that has the knob on it, it may have an adjustment on it. Or it may need to be replaced. How far off is it, have you put a thermometer in the oven to check?
    Look at the photo for reference in finding the bulb...

How to calibrate oven?

Sometimes the oven thermostat or oven sensor can be calibrated wrong, or it may be faulty. If your particular range has an oven that uses an electronic thermostat, and the oven temperature is off by tens of degrees, you probably have to replace it.
On most units that have a mechanical thermostat, you can actually remove the thermostat knob, and adjust the knob to more accurately represent the actual setting of the thermostat. On many models, there's a screw on the back of the knob with a small calibration plate or ring. You can loosen this screw and adjust the calibration plate. Remember to tighten the screw again. If yours isn't adjustable, and the temperature is off by a large amount, you should just replace the thermostat.

Or Oven safety valve needs to be checked with multi meter ohms / voltage

Stove shuts off unless kept at 400

Sounds like the capillary tube is out of its holder where the oven starts the lite up with the there's a click click click sound before it lights ignition spark at this point where it clicks there is a tube on the end of a like copper or aluminum solid wire in a snap in holder if its out put it back if its dirty clean it shiney this controls the gas from the oven temperature control just like a thermocouple same thing. This is your problem or someone has adjusted to oven thermostat out of whack. this is all it cam be.I have also provided you with an owner manual for it in the link below. The oven wont get hot, it will warm up and the broiler seems to get hot??

You may get fooled into thinking it's working, because the oven is hot inside. But many electric ovens use the broil element, too, during the preheat and bake cycles. So the food may be getting heated only by the broil element, which causes poor baking results. If the bake element is burned out, replacing it should solve the problem. To determine if the heating element is burned out, you will have to test the element for resistance across the 2 ends , with the meter set on the 200 scale if you get a good reading like 000 it would indicate that the part may be ok but if yoiu get a reading of a 01 or a 1 or lomething like this it would indicate tha part is bad then you need to replace it
However you will also want to
First check to see if the thermostat sensing bulb has come loose from its holder. It could be lying on the floor of the oven or resting on the heating element. This would cause the oven to not heat correctly. If the thermostat bulb is not dislodged, it's likely that the thermostat or sensor is either mis-calibrated or defective. Electronic ovens with a digital display use a sensor to monitor oven temperature. To solve temperature problems for these models, you may need to replace the sensor. On some digital-display models, you can calibrate the temperature using the key pad. See your operator's manual for details. Ovens without a digital display often use a mechanical system for controlling temperature. On many of these units, you can remove the thermostat knob and adjust the knob itself to more accurately represent the actual setting of the thermostat. If, when you remove the knob, there's a screw on the back of it with a small calibration plate, you can loosen the screw, adjust the plate, then tighten the screw again. If the knob isn't adjustable, and the oven temperature is off by more than 30 to 40 degrees, you need to replace the thermostat to solve the problem. It won't broil

I need a manual for omega oven,model not known.

Hello. If your stove is manufactured by Omega Appliances, it appears that they no longer produce it. That said I can speak to your heating element issue. When the food you're baking is done on top but not on the bottom--or when baking just takes far too long to finish--the bake element may be burned out. You may get fooled into thinking it's working, because the oven is hot inside. But many electric ovens use the broil element, too, during the preheat and bake cycles. So the food may be getting heated only by the broil element, which causes poor baking results. If the bake element is burned out, replacing it should solve the problem. Otherwise, you need to further troubleshoot the oven's electrical system to locate the defective wire or component. When the temperature is consistent but too high or too low, it could be one of several different things. Whirlpool Stove oven temperature not accurate

This unit has a calibration function which can compensate for temperature errors of +/-30 deg F. Hold the BAKE button for 4 seconds to enter this mode. Use the Temp UP/DN buttons to adjust the temperature offset. Push START to enter the new offset.

Also, the typical manual oven thermometers are notoriously inaccurate.

If this doesn't solve your problem, next items may be the temperature sensor or control board. If it is the control board we may be able to repair it for you at www.fixyourboard.com.

OVEN TEMP WRONG

Yes you can make adjustments but you need a thermometer to set it accurately, you can buy them at Wal mart for 4 bucks. You will need to see if the thermal bulb is located in the flame, if not you will have to move it when it's cool. Some units have a screw to adjust the temperature some use a sliding tube to adjust the heat you will need to look at the stove to see. If you have the owners manual it will help, sometimes the thermal bulb goes bad and the temp control has to be replaced.

Replace the temperature sensor inside the oven cavity. It looks like a small metal rod. Be aware you will never get an accurate temperature reading with those cheap 5 dollar things. After the oven is preheated, you must wait 10 minutes and take a reading. Some models have a temperature adjustment, it's listed in the owners manual.

Thermostat calibration?

It's on page 32 of the manual for Thermador's built in convection ovens. 1. turn off the oven 2.touch and hold the start pad and then touch the bake pad 3. 0 (zero) appears in the temp digits. release all pads 4. touch bake and 0 changes in increments. max adjustment is 35 degrees F. 5. to complete change touch start for lower oven on double ovens do this: touch the roast pad instead of the bake pad continue with steps 3-5.
