The number one cause if this is fuel flow, the most common is dirt is plugging the carburetor main fuel jet, also make sure the tank is clean and the fuel line to carb has free flow of gas, if i does pull the carb off, very easy just remove the air cleaner and linkage and then a few retaining nuts or bolts and carb comes right off, remove the bowl of the carb and clean it, then blow the jets of the carb out with compressed air, this is the only way to clean it, so if you don't have access to compressed air try to find a source. If u are very carefuel u won't need a new carburetor bowl gasket.

Car ran fine shut it off came back it didn't want to start. started went about half a mile sputered an died wouldn't start back up 1991 subaru loyal wagon

Hi sounds like the typical fuel pump or filter problem with these cars, best way to tell is take top fuel hose off on fuel filter under hood, turn key on ignition (not start) and fuel should pump out, if not its your pump, just beware of doing when engine is hot

This is an interesting problem, firstly did it start doing it after fill-up? if so you could have got a dose of bad fuel, simple drain and refill should have it going OK, don't forget to drain the whole fuel system. Secondly check to see if any vacuum lines have come off, if this is the case listen for any light hissing noises and chase it out. Thirdly Check you spark plugs for fouling and any cracks in the insulators, it could also be a coil breaking down.

Starting problems

It will likely be the crank sensor, usually fitted next to or behind the bottom engine pulley. A common failure is for the sensor to stop sending a signal when hot, and the engine will stall immediately. After a time, it re-starts but will cut out again when the sensor gets hot again. These sensors are easy to find and replace, and not usually expensive.

I have a 1997 Dodge Avenge and can drive it for about 2 miles and it starts sputering and dies

check the crank sensor next to or behind the main crank pulley, these are known to fail when hot and cut the engine out until it has cooled for a few minutes.
