Question about Sony HVR-A1U Camcorder

Mics plugged into the xlr module don't seem to

Mics plugged into the xlr module on my HVR A1U don't seem to work anymore. I've checked the connectors and settings. When I disconnect the module, the internal mics pick up fine.

    Thanks Larry,

I appreciate you're response. But no, there were no on/off switches. Thankfully, it was the ext mic that proved to be dead and not the camera's input, which really had me worried.
The manual says, applying the switchable 48v to a device that doesn't require it could cause an "equipment malfunction", but it doesn't specify what kind of malfunction, i.e., will it kill the camera or the mic.
It'd be nice to see more "fool proof" circuitry, being a founding member of that group.

Mics have any on off switches? look for a switch labeled internal external mic. Could be in the menu.

Does the Behringer xm8500 work on it's own, or do I have to hook it up to something? My daughter wants a microphone she can sing into.

All microphones have to be hooked to an amplifier to work. The socket at the bottom with the 3 pins in it is called an XLR jack. You need to plug an XLR cord into that and then plug it into an amp that has an XLR or 1/4 inch microphone input (using an adapter).

If she just wants it for looks, then no, you don't need to plug it in.

Can I put a xlr conector on a contrymam isomax mic ? What the pinout? Do I need put a resistance?

Hello. You can put an XLR plug on but you will have to have a phantom power supply for the mic. If you are plugging into a mixer , check to see if it has phantom power (a switch marked as such) and turn it on . Mics that need it like the HS will use it, mics that don't will ignore it. Without phantom power though the mic will not function.
Standard mic wiring is pin 1 GRD, Pin 2 Hot, Pin3 Neutral. No resistance is needed. Good Luck

HI,I have a VMX1000USB mixer and I cannot get any sound when plugging a microphone in any of the rear jack sockets, as opposed to the XLR sockets on the top of the unit. Can you please advise what may be...

The XLR are intended for mic and as such they have the gain needed to use mics.
The connectors on the back are LINE LEVEL connectors. To use a mic with these, you will need to have mic preamps to send adequate levels into the jacks on the back of the unit.

I bought a samson se50 headset microphone to go with my GTD Audio wireless system. It has the correct adapter plug to plug in to the transmitter. The plug is a mini XLR plug. The microphone does not...

You need power from the transmitter to power this mic. See your mics specs to determine if it needs "Phantom Power"
Perhaps the transmitter doesn't supply power. Condenser mics may not work. Stay with the dynamic type. IMHO

How to make my co3 mic work

You will need a pre amp that supplies whats called phantom power which is power that feeds the mic .. This will come from either mixers [small cheap ones..but check it has XLR mic input with phantom power] or from a stand alone pre amp or audio interfaces with built in inputs for mics with phantom power.. Also you will need an XLR mic lead..Buy a good one with neutrik plugs or similar..

My akg perception 200 is not responding

Have you tried using a another XLR cable..,or are the other mics phantom powered condensers..ie try to locate if its a mic problem or the cable..2 other points are 1 - XLR leads for phantom mics need to be XLR to XLR male to Female plugs[ends] 2- is that often an XLR to XLR cable will be not soldered or wired right,so that the power [phantom power is not getting to the mic] so ensure you have a proper cable for that job...Sorry i can't be more specific but from reading your problem all these issues come to mind..If you have ruled all these things out, then it could be the capsule or loose joint or component in the mic which means contact AKG,pro audio services or find a DIY mic person to help..G luck!!

Wires in the microphone at the point where you connect to the lead have come appart and i need to solder them back on, Black, red and white wires. Which in which order do i solder them onto the connecter...

There are many standards of microphone connectivity with 3 pin XLR (cannon) style plugs. It depends on where in the world you are as to the favoured standard,
Your microphone usesthe following::

Pin
1 ground (white) 2 +ve or hot (red) 3 -ve or return (black)

Another way to work out what wires connect to what, is to remove the cover of one of your XLR-XLR microphone cables exposing the connections it favours, plug the connector into the mics scoket , and use the connections to the cable guide you in resoldering the connections back on.
The same connections can be veiwed in the user manual here
Please rate this solution. Cheers
