Sorry to say your dyson is not the fault, its your carpet, a lot of new carpets have a tight weave pattern, this makes it impossible to push any vacuum. all new carpets have a directional pile always vacuum with the pile. The best option is to buy a auto drive kirby it does all he hard work for you. you can pick a refurbished one up for around 300

SOURCE: I have a Dyson Animal. Roller bar won't turn/belt intact

Actually, I'm the poster who said I have the same problem, but it turns out I have the DC07 animal, not the DC14, but perhaps the solution is the same for the DC14 and it doesn't cost anything! I called DYSON and they told me the clutch needed to be reset, so she had me recline the vacuum from its upright position, lay it on it's side, turn the carpet/bare floor dial slowly back and forth between the two settings about 6 times and it apparently reset the clutch and now the cleaner bar spins normally and there's no more loud grinding-type noises. She said if that didn't work, the next step would be to remove the bottom protective panel (secured with the three large plastic screws) and lift the entire cleaner bar (do not remove the belt) out about an inch or so and then reinsert it and reattach the bottom plate. I hope this helps your problem. Good luck.

SOURCE: DC17 Animal - loud noise in roller bar

We were able to get in touch with the Dyson support people and they told us this model doesn't have a clutch in the roller bar. The support person helped us walk through looking at the vacuum and it turns out the belt was stripped and they are sending us a new replacement belt. Case Solved!!

SOURCE: lost suction from cleaning dyson roller brush

Hello,

This is actually a very common problem that we see for repair on Dyson Vacuums. Usually what happens is that the vacuum doesn't loose suction like most people think. You can test this by feeling the suction power on the hose. If you have suction coming from here, then most likely the machine isn't clogged.

What happens is that the bottom soleplate on the vacuum cleaner can easily be re-installed the incorrect way. If this happens the brushes on the vacuum cleaner can not even hit the carpet, which makes the vacuum feel like it's not picking up, but when the suction is tested from the hose it has plenty.

We see a lot of Dysons come in for repair with this problem. The bottom plate is not flush with the rest of the vacuum cleaner. Here's a picture of what an improperly installed bottom soleplate looks like:

974f88e.jpg
When the bottom plate is put back on the vacuum, you should make sure that the bottom plate (the purple colored part in the picture) is flush with the agitator housing tray (red part in the picture). If not, the brushes will not hit the carpeting, and the vacuum won't really pick up anything.

This is how a correctly installed bottom soleplate should look like:

This should be the first thing you should check on your vacuum cleaner as it's the easiest and most common solution. If this doesn't fix your Dyson, please just use the Clarification Request form, and let me know which exact Dyson model you have, and whether the vacuum has suction power from the hose, whether the brushes turn when set to the carpet setting, and how old the vacuum is. I'd be happy to try and further diagnosis the problem with you.

I hope that this was helpful to you. If it helped you, please be sure to rate the repair as helpful by clicking the thumbs up icons in the top right hand corner.

Thank you very much,

Chris J.

Dyson small ball multi floor vacuum cleaner purchased in Australia

Aussie electrical current may be different than our US current. England's is. Converters are needed to plug in a toothbrush in England. Likely Australia is the same. We've lived on a dirt road for 32 years, in New Mexico. We call dust "enchantment." Mostly ignore it. Check out the electrical conversion from them to us. Likely there is way to convert their currency? to ours. Electrical currents.

My Dyson - DC14 won't push on my new plush carpet, front end

Same issue: new plush carpet, 7 year old tried and true DC14, wouldn't push across regardless of beater brush on or off. Called Dyson this morning, they suggested removing the small gasket between the floor plate and the assembly holding the beater brush. It's about a 12' gasket just under the screws used to remove the floor plate. Pushing is still a bit stiff, but it is a definite improvement. Whew!

    How to fix pedal plunger

    Hi Mark ..

Can I query whether you are talking about the small clear plastic Pedal Plunger, which has the small spring attached OR the larger Red foot attachement, that you have to push down to release the machine from the upright position - as i have noticed on a number of similar threads, that people use the term for both 'bits, which is wrong.

We have t a problem with the first mentioned clear plastic part, which broke off today and I have been spending hours trying to figure out how the plunger and spring actually operate, and more importantly, how they attach to the machine,as I didn't want to send off for the parts, if they can only be fitted in a w/shop situation or by a dyson engineer.

I think that i now have it sorted (phew) lol - just one small decision now, on whether I would need to losen the grey stirup type attachemnt on the side to facilitate the fitting fitting - as it's a pretty tight squeeze. .

Let me know where you are at, as between us I am sure we will conquer it. - As they say 'every little helps'. I see from lookingat this thread, that the question of the dreaded broken 'pedal plunger' comes up again and again, but no one seems willing to give any real help or explanation on the matter!

    All the best ...

Vacuum stops when I try to use hose. The hose is contracting almost flat with very little suction. What do I do?

    Hi there,

From what you've described, it sounds as though you may have a blockage somewhere in the hose or wand. This should be easy to clear - please follow the simple steps shown in our guide linked below:

It's also a good idea to wash your filters - you can see a video guide demonstrating the correct way to do this here:

    http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1461&product=DC14-ANIMAL_US

These two steps should resolve your problem. However, if you require further assistance, please get in touch with us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone, and provide further help.

Hi. I have been repairing Dyson machines since they first came out. DO NOT PAY FOR A NEW CLUTCH. I can assure you that both clutch belts can be replaced. Its A tricky job & can take some time to do. Its more cost effective for a shop to fit a new clutch at your expense $150 Clutch Belts are readily available in the UK you can purchase belts from numerouse sites for approx $10 postage to states $3 to $5 saving you a small fortune. If you want to know how to fit the 2 belts I can sell you A manual for approx $11 Or contact me at [email protected] for more information.
