SOURCE: AGP 2X or 4X
if the specs say 4 then it should be 4, however you can plug an 8x in there and it will work, (as they are backward compatible)
the only thing you have to concern yourself with is the slot bars in the slot, and that they match any slots on the card you are going to insert..
If you look in your AGP slot there may be a partition in the slot...
on most newer slots there is no partition in the slot (denotes voltage) If you look on the VGA cards there is most likely TWO slots, which means that the card will fit into ANY AGP slot.. if there is only ONE slot on the Graphics card it is Voltage dependant and must match the partition on the slot (unless there isn't one)
I hope that helps

I cannot record on my Emerson either and I am wondering what I should do at this point? Do I have to dispose of the unit and all the DVD's that I have recorded or is there an upgrade that will allow me to keep my unit and the Hundreds of DVD that I have?

This unit is too old and too basic to handle 16x speed. However, there is a firmware update for this model DVD/VCR to record on 8x.
All you have to do is call the toll-free number in your manual and request it. They will send you an update disc.
Here is the basic procedure after you receive the update disc:
1. Turn on your TV and your combo unit. The tray should be closed. The unit must be in DVD mode.
2. Quickly press the sequence CM Skip, 6, 5, 4 (This will switch it into firmware update mode. The tray will eject automatically.)
3. Insert the disc and push the tray back in.
4. The update will begin. It will take approx. 2-3 minutes. It will tell you when it is complete and eject the tray.
5. When it is done, remove the disc, but DO NOT close the tray. It will go back in later. Turn the power off.
6. Wait a few minutes and when the tray goes back in wait about another 10 seconds and then you may turn the unit back on.
Firmware update procedure is now completed.

Make sure you are using compatible media ( DVD-RW ? DVD+RW ? )
Otherwise , your device is defective . A new one will kost you only a few $ or £ or € and it would be useless to submit your drive to a repair office .

Testimonial: "fanaudi, thanks I had a blonde moment - haa! The media I tried is 4x DVD+RW. I just ordered the 2x DVD-RW discs and will see if that works."
