SOURCE: My dyson dc14 not sucking only from the hose

Hi- I have the same problem: suction fine, but the brushbar was not spinning. I went 1st to the Dyson site and went thru their troubleshooting guide and I'd done all those things, so I called Dyson (1-866-MY DYSON in the USA) and they walked me thru a very simple solution.

What worked was to "rest" the bare floor/carpet adjustment, and it's very easy! You do this by clicking the carpet to bare floor adjustment back and forth at least 5 times. Make sure when you end it's on carpet. Then tilt it back all the way from the upright position so it's flat on the floor and turn it onto it's left side. The carpet indicator should be below the word carpet. THAT WAS IT! As soon as I turned it on again, the brush bar is spinning great! I wish I could tell you right now how well it picks up, but unfortunately I took out the filter and rinsed it, so I have to wait until tomorrow to **** anything up. However, I'm sure it will work now that the brush bar is moving. Like I said, the suction was fine.

Just as an FYI--If you call, they will have you try other things to rule out other problems 1st. I had already done all the things suggested in their troubleshooting guide on their site and the only additional thing they asked me to try was to turn it on and tilt it back as though you are going to vacuum and make sure the suction from the top tube had stopped, as it normally does, and mine did.

Hope this helps!

Liz

Dyson dc14 brushes not turning

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear your DC14's brush bar isn't rotating. This could just mean that the brush control is set to 'Hard floors' rather than 'Carpets'. To check for this, please take a look at our Support guide:

Dyson dc14 starts, runs for 15 mins and then shuts off

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14. Your machine is designed to shut itself off if it begins to overheat - this may be due to a blockage, and the filter may also need a wash.

To prevent this from occurring again, please follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=626&product=DC14-ALLFLOORS_US

In normal use, the filter must be washed at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for it to dry completely before replacing it.

This should resolve the issue, but if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please get in touch with us directly by calling free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Best wishes,

My dyson keeps shutting down

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14 Animal. Like most Dyson cleaners, your DC14 is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the cleaner if it starts to overheat. This is often due to a blockage, or because the filter needs a wash. The easiest way to check for and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=626&product=DC14-ANIMAL

The correct way to wash the filter is shown in the video linked below. The filter should be washed in cold water without any detergent, at least once every 3-6 months. Always ensure it's totally dry before replacing it - this may take up to 1 hours.

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=1942&product=DC14-ANIMAL

By clearing any obstructions and washing the filter, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've followed these steps and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you and recommend the best course of action.

Kind regards,

If your DC14 has a Brush Control, try checking for and removing anything blocking the brush bar. You can find out how to do this here:

Brush not turning

The belt doesn't have to be broken to be non-functioning. If the belt is intact but stretched it won't turn the brush. You can get belts here:
