Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

I have what I think is a very old Unity Sewing Machine; a hemming machine in a cabinet. The transmitter shows Model No. PS-6. My father used to run a dress company. Question: Is it worth anything?

SOURCE: Motor is sluggish, Necchi Model#4795

Set machine to wind the bobbin to check for how fast the machine will run. I believe it will run fast or slow according to how hard you depress the foot control. If it runs fast and slow you have a problem in the machine. Most likely the machine, if turned by hand, is hard to turn and it needs to be professionally serviced. before it is ruined.

SOURCE: Singer Samba 6 sewing machine

It would be wise to have the machine cleaned & serviced. Do you have a manual for it? Did it come with oil at one time? I found a free manual at
http://homeappliance.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/singer/7442.html

You have to register (free)...choose to skip the popups (2)...and you can save the manual to your hard drive.

I checked the manual...you don't need to oil the machine...but page 61-63 shows cleaning...and it's basic. You take the two screws from the throat plate, remove the bobbin case & brush the inside of the machine bed out...I use a small artists plastic bristle brush, or a small childs tooth brush.

Hope this helps.

Testimonial: "Hi, thanks a lot. I don't know if it came with the oil, we assumed that it maybe needs oil (my father knew this from the old machines ;-) ) Again thank you very much for your quick answer!"

How to turn up a hem with no stitching showing on outside plz

Good evening to you and your sewing machine.
If you have the manual there is probably a certain program for doing the hem this way in the machine.
If you are a little nervous of using the machine to do the hem you could do it by hand with what was called in my younger days " invisible stitch" or you can practice on a piece of cloth in the machine, take a look here Magic Invisible Closure and here

Does the simplicity classic model S02 do a hem stitch? Does it come with the hemming foot? Can you please show a hemming foot for it so I can compare it to the feet my machine has? Thanks

No the Simplicity Classic Model S02 doesn't come with a hemming foot. It is too simple a sewing machine. It does have the capability of doing edging and some basic stitches that can be used for hemming, but there is no specialty setting. See the linked pdf quick start guide for more information. http://www.mastersewusa.com/video/S02LetsGetStarted.pdf

Metal blind foot hem 6217c

The 6217C doesn't have a blind hem foot. You need the General Purpose (low-shank) foot, the General Purpose Needle Plate and the blind hem guide (part number 381213). The guide gets secured by the screw that holds the presser foot shank. This site, http://cart.jennys-sewing-studio.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=473 , has the blind hem guide available. This metal foot might fit your machine: http://cart.jennys-sewing-studio.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=530_73_101_164_168&products_id=463 .

I hope this helps.

Which food sood i use to make an invisible hem

blind hem foot is good if you want to machine stitch a hem but not have a seam showing. it will have an adjustable piece you can move left or right with a screw. but blind hemming works best on straight grain and not on a curve like a skirt hem unless its a knit fabric that gives. to make a blind hem press the hem allowance up then turn the main garment piece back to form a Z shape. you then stitch along the hem side with your blind hem foot guidr running along the top fold and use the blind hem stitch which looks like three little zigzags then one big zig far to the left onto your folded piece taking a little 'bite' - this stitch shows on the right side when you press the top of the Z back flat. so you need to adjust the foot position and how wide the needle swings to minimise this stitch showing. hope this makes sense and helps you with your sewing.

you want to use a blind stitch. Refer to your manual and it should give you details on how to set the machine for that stitch.
