Portafilter My portafilter is not "snapping" back as it used to. Feels as if the spring inside of it stopped working. Any suggestions where to get a replacement ? I am from NJ. Thanks

Gaggia Baby filter is stuck!

The filter is stuck on the group head of the machine only by the force of dry coffee which acts like glou and since on the portafilter is secure by a wire spring which is probably loose and couldent hold the filter in place.
So all you need is a pointing screwdriver with edge like a nail or similar and use it on the filter try to level it out and by a little force try to move it and get unstuck. After that you can clean also the coffee remaining's on group head also.
In order to avoid this in future you will have to clean the portafilter from machine after you will make a coffee, replace the portafilter spring with a new one and clean the grouhead and grouphead gasket often with grouphead brush. You may need also to buy cleaning grouphead powder and backwash blid filter to perform backwash frequent. All these cleaning and parts you can easily find in eBay.

I just bought a Breville BES860 Fresca Espresso Machine and when I tried to put the basket into the portafilter, it doesn't fit. The portafilter came standard with the machine. Do I need a bigger...

They require a bit of effort to push them in when new, you should have gotten a set of single wall and dual wall baskets. There is a spring clip inside the grouphead (portafilter) and you have to overcome the clamping of the spring it is a reasonably tight fit to stop the basket retaining in the machine.

I get espresso grinds up on the machine above the filter basket after I make espresso.

Sorry to say but that is pretty normal. One trick we did is after making the espresso for the day, we emptied the portafilter basket of grounds, then put the portafilter back in the machine and ran the pump. Once we had water coming from the portafilter, we loosened the portafilter back and forth a couple times and this would clean the gasket and brew head. The gasket is very important and a dirty gasket can lead to trouble down the road.

Broken portafilter!

I had a brand new Via Venezia that I could barely get to make espesso, nothing or very little came out. Got a new portafilter and now it work beautifully, espesso flies out of the thing wonderfully. Bad news is a new portafilter is like $65. I can't believe they are shipping these with bad portafilters, but they are.

No water coming through portafilter to make espresso.

You have a stuck check valve. Try running the pump with the steam knob open, then shutting it then, opening it 4 or 5 times and see if it will pop open. Make sure that you don't have the portafilter in at the time you are doing this.

I have cleaned the machine, taken apart the filter and even attempted to run white vinegar through it to remove any potential deposits. I still can't get water through. Any suggestions?

You may need a new portafilter. I got a brand new Via Venezia and it never worked right out of the box. I got a new portafilter and now the espesso flies out of the machine. Bad news is the portafilter is like $65. They say you are not supposed to take those portafilters apart, they have some weird pressurized part that gets wrecked if you disassemble them.

Water sprays out between portafilter and brewhead.

I had the same problem when I started using the Sirena. When I put the portafilter on I was lining it up with the arrow. I found that if I tighten the portafilter on all the way to the right (past the arrow) it works perfect, no water spraying.

Saeco pressurized portafilter gets stuck in the locked position

No, no... He has a Saeco pressurized portafilter which has a valve that will not allow coffee through when the portafilter handle is pushed all the way to the right. His handle is locking in the rightmost position; this is not a grounds problem.

mjtourig: Can you not just nudge the handle to the left before you pull a shot to unlock it? If it is too clogged for that, try taking your portafilter apart to clean it. You'll have to remove the 3 screws on the bottom, and be very careful the entire time that you do not lose any of the parts (in particular, there is a spring under one of the screws that will want to pop out, and a tiny white plastic thing under that spring...). Good luck!
