Changing door catch

Hello Jim;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

You did not provide a model number which is located either on the face of your oven after you open the door or on the side of the door.

Depending on the oven model that you have will dictate the difficulty of the task. Some are easy, others are difficult with reassembly.

So, I want you to fine your model number. Go into the following website and put your model number in. You will get diagrams, part numbers and prices.

Record the part number of what you need. Search the internet for best price.

You may just have a bad door switch. Push in the door button. If you here a click the switch is good.

If you have a built-in wall oven, this is another story and get back to me.

What are the dimensions for the inner glass on the bottom oven on this appliance??

Hello Chris;

My name is Peter; I am a retired field service appliance technician.

You need to locate your oven model number, which is on a label either on the face of the oven when you open the door or on the side of the door.

You will receive both diagrams and component part numbers.

Locate the part number for the glass. Search the internet for this part (40-50% less).

This is a special high temperature glass. DO NOT PUT REGULAR WINDOW GLASS IN!

What's F4 error code stands for?

Hello Richard;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

You did not provide a model number and manufacturer. So, the following is a general description of a F4 code.

The error code "F4" will be displayed along with a beeping sound if the ERC (Electronic Range Control) or "clock" determines an open oven temperature sensor circuit during the "cook" (bake or broil) mode. The "F4" message will not be displayed in the time of day mode. The cause of the problem is a bad oven temperature sensor or its wire harness. The access to the oven temperature sensor plug and the wires is from the back only. You have to pull the oven out of the wall (if it's free standing) or remove it from the cabinet (if it's built in). Disconnect the power and remove the rear cover. Check the resistance across the oven temperature sensor. It is supposed to be about 1100 Ohms at room temperature. If the resistance is incorrect, the oven temperature sensor is bad and needs to be replaced. If not, check all the wires from the oven temperature sensor to the ERC. If it is not the sensor and wires, you have to replace the ERC.
To get the right replacement part just click on the link AppliancePartsPros, then type the model number of your oven in the search box, click on the "search" button and in the new window type the word "sensor" or the word "clock" in the "search by keyword" box and click the "search" button.

You can go into the following website put in your model number and get diagrams ans component part numbers.
Your model number is on a label either on the face of the oven when you open the door or on the side of the oven door.

How do I fix my Westinghouse Oven

Hello Leonard;

My name is Peter. I am a retired Sears field service appliance technician.

The fault codes start with a "F'. The Do may mean Oven Door.

When you close the oven door is it loose at the top and not completely close?

If this is the case you have a bad oven door lock assembly (Part number W10195934). The assembly has a micro switch which activates a 1/4 turn motor.

The part if ordered locally will cost you $108.00 plus tax. If this is the problem you can search the internet and probably get it for $70.00.

If you call a Sears service technician it would be $108.00 x 2 plus $140.00 labor.

To access the door lock assembly, you need to remove the oven wall restrainer strips, Pull the oven out about 4-5 inches.

Go into the following website plug in your model number to see your oven diagrams.

This is a common failure.

Good luck,h

Where do I get a fan element from?

You don't say what oven it is but if you go online to ebay or type in your make and model then a number of appliance sellers will pop up and search through them. Its not a major job to change the element, make sure the cooker is isolated at the main switch. Someone with basic DIY skills and a modest toolkit should do it no problem. You will need the machine data off a sticker that's usually on the back of the machine. Make sure the replacement matches the current one exactly. You will find that element may fit a range of ovens, check the machine serial numbers carefully. If you have the original purchase paperwork there is usually a panel in the back with duplicate numbers so look there first.

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

You did not provide a model number so I can not provide more information.

Be careful, it may not be the igniter. It could be the Hi-Temp thermostat or some other $12.00 component. The igniter is about $35.00.

I have a DCS-FSCO-1N oven that a repairman took apart & then took off before putting the new part back in. Is there anywhere to get the wiring map or schematics?

IF DCS is still in business contact them, explain the situation and ask why they would have such a technician that would do such a thing. There is also a very good chance he took the diagram with him as most major appliances have diagrams in the unit for all repairmen to use. Good chance they will resolve it through their own service agency. If not, ask if they would at least send you a pdf of the diagram to download and print.
