Question about Sony Televison & Video
Could it perhaps be the t-con board or is the lcd panel bad. I can send a picture of the screen if you'd like

I will try a new T-CON first, if it did not fix it, it could be a defective LCD panel.

SOURCE: I have two sets of
IF YOU HAVE A SOLID BLACK LINE RUNNING VERTICALLY THEN YOU HAVE A FAULTY MATRIX INVERTER. IF CENTRAL THE MAIN VERTICAL INVERTER NEEDS CHANGED. LEFT = LEFT VERTICAL INVERTER RIGHT=RIGHT.........
ANOTHER WAY TO GET THIS FAULT IS WORN OR DAMAGED RIBBON/PLASTIC GOING FROM THE SCREEN MATRIX TO THE INVERTER
Take care in solving the problem...

Sounds like a T'Con fault itself. Re-seat all the incoming and outgoing flat cable wires to T'Con. If it do not help you, replace it with a new one of same part number. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" will make surf easy.
