Question about GE Refrigerators

Open Question

Have a ge zfsb26drd refrigerator which began to get warm. Check it out to find evaporator fan stuck. Replaced and it worked 4 days. Now both the compressor and fan are not running. What should I be looking for as the culprit?

Deet, Unplug the refrigerator and the 3 pins on the compressor. Remember where the three compressor wires  go when you put them back on. Test all three pins 2 at a time with an ohm meter. You should get readings all the way around. Then test 1 pin at a time touching the other probe to the copper on the outside the compressor. Tell me what you come up with, Thanks, JT

There are about four different versions of your model. If you like I will send you the manual and we will work together as this refrigerator is very complex. Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

GE bottom freezer stopped cooling

The unit needs two fans running and good airflow, one fan outside cools the condensor coil and the other inside the unit blowing across the evaporator. The compressor must start up. The defrost timer stops everything and switches on a heating element to defrost the evaporator for several minutes. Please verify these conditions.

Evaporator fan not working ge profile pss26mgpa ww

Try spinning the evaporator fan motor with your fingers. If the freezer door was left closd it may have rusted on its shaft and be stuck. We need to test the voltage going to fan if oiling its bearing and spinning byhand does not get it moving. Click Here for a service manual=> HERE and here=> GE Artica Test Sheet The fan motor or a relay on the motherboad may also be defective. You should get 12-13 volts DC at the fan motor, Thanks Sea Breeze

i dont believe ur mother board is gonna be ur problem its either gonna make something turn on or off not burn anything up unless it jus totally shorted out and sent power surges to the parts ( highly unlikely)

My GE refrigerator is not maintaing cold temp in either frig or freezer

Probabilities:
1. Main board, most likely
2. And/or evap. fan motor less likely.
3. Defrost heater, less likely
4. Evaporator thermister, unlikely, but possible
Try defrosting it for 24 hours (by unplugging) and see if it helps.

Evap fan stops running/low cooling, Unplug Frig Evap fan runs

Is there anything obstructing the fan area, ice build up ? It is normal for your freezer to get warm if evap fan is not working, it is essential for it to work :) A defrost cycle should kick on a timer or as needed (adaptive) and there should not be excessive frost buildup that it blocks your evap fan. I would have suggested you unplug your refrigerator for about 10 minutes and see if that resets your control board - if not, then you will need service - either replacing motor assembly or a faulty control board.

Freezer coils freezing, fridge warm

You might want to check and make sure the interior fan is working above the evaporator coils. If the fan isn't working the air won't circulate over the evaporator and it will frost over very quickly, and also cold air won't be pushed into the fridge side.

The fan might turn off when the door is open, hold the door switch shut while you check it.
