Octo, I'm afraid this one is something you'll have to bite the bullet on and take to the shop. For now it sounds like a bad cap that's going thermal. Meaning that it heats up beyond it's tolerance range and allows the voltages in that circuit to go too high, causing the x-ray protection circuit to shutdown the unit. Because the cap is already warm when you try subsequently it takes less time for the protect circuit to react. A shop will ESR the caps in the suspected circuit. My first suspect would be the SMPS (switch mode power supply). And they would also check the following: Z00451 - I901 Hybrid Ic Str-M6811a 2000465 - 3 Opto-Couplers Ps2501-1 2348253m - D906 Zener Diode Mtz-J22cta 2312171 - Q901 Transistor 2sc3852 2381349 - I905 120v. Hybrid Ic Se120n I doubt seriously any of these would need to be replaced from your description of the symptoms. But if it progresses to an instant shutdown you could have damage to some of the above. Sorry for the less than good news, please don't kill the messenger, but it's not too expensive if it's just caps. Find a reputable shop in your area and take it to them, it will save a few bucks. Good Luck Bill

SOURCE: Garmin C530 need pin to unlock
Have you tried putting the unlock code in the main directory? To do this open up notepad or some similar text program and copy the code from the yellow sheet onto the note pad and save it as GMAPPROM.UNL. Then open "My Computer" and locate the Garmin removable device. Open the "Garmin" folder and copy that file to it. Safely remove it from your system and turn it on.
