SOURCE: roller brush on Kenmore model: 116.31199100 won't turn

Refer to Larryclare1's solution at http://www.fixya.com/support/t1095798-kenmore_model_116_powermate_jr_stopped It worked great for me. Replace the belt, which you can get at Sears Parts store/online and clean out the hair as per Larryclare's instructions.

SOURCE: Vorwerk ET 340 - been

Jessica,
Try changing the dirt bag. Check if the motor gets hot after operation. You can come to check it by touching outside the motor housing. If it is hot or just warm. Is the smell of burning hair or something else? May be rubber or plastic??? Please check and confirm.

Brush roller not spinning. belt, spindle okay. roller taken out and cleaned, no thread. replaced but no dice. ???

Use only BISSELL Style 10 Replacement Belts (#32074) in your BISSELL PowerForce Bagless.
  1. Unplug cleaner from electrical outlet.
  2. With Rotating Floor Brush removed from vacuum cleaner, grasp old Drive Belt and remove from Motor Pulley. Discard old Drive Belt.
  3. Place new Drive Belt over Motor Pulley and stretch other end over Rotating Floor Brush in the space between the bristles.
  4. Place ends of Rotating Floor Brush down into slots on sides as shown.
  5. Turn Rotating Floor Brush by hand several times in the direction of Motor Pulley. If properly installed, Drive Belt will center itself on Rotating Brush.
  6. Reposition Brush Cover and snap back into place. Check to be sure all three latches are secured.
  7. When you turn on the vacuum, do you see the motor that spins the belt spinning at the bottom? If not, it sounds like you may have a burned out motor.

Brush not turning and belt not broke

even thought the belt isn't broke it can still be stretched or worn and that will cause the vacuum to not pick up well. you can get replacement belts here:

The belt broke and after putting on new belt I dicscovered the cylinder with the brushes attached wasn't turning. After I finally got the cylinder to turn it makes a very very loud noise and also now it...

Check the cylinder with brushes does not have hair or carpet fibers causing it to bind. With the belt removed the brush should turn freely and fairly easy. The original belt probably broke because of this. You may have to fully dis-assemble the head of the vacuum to clean the entire brush assembly.

My vacuum has good suction but i can hardly push it across my carpet. any answers????

is your brush roller turning, that would cause it to be hard to push .the brush roller helps it walk across the floor.if your brush roller isn't turning then your belt is broke or the brush itself siezed up.unplug the vacuum and try to turn the brush roller .if it turns real free then your belt is broke.before you replace the belt always clean the motor shaft ,the old rubber from the old belt melts onto the motor shaft .if you don't clean it your new belt won't last very long.please leave feedback

Replacing the brush drive belt on model #1697 carpet cleaner

To replace the Brush Belt:

You will need a Phillips head screwdriver.

1. Turn the machine OFF and unplug from the wall outlet.

2. Step on the release pedal to lay the handle down on the floor.

3. Remove the Tank-in-Tank and SmartMix Bottle and set them aside.

4. Turn the machine over to expose the brush.

5. Look for the red retainers, which hold the black brush arms and gear-type brush belt in place. Unscrew the two Phillips head screws. Set these parts aside.

6. Loop the replacement brush roll belt around the brush end and the red pulley with the ridges.

7. Alternate holding each brush arm in place while replacing the red retainers.

8. Replace the Phillips head screws and turn until snug.

9. Turn the machine right side up to replace the Tank-in-Tank and SmartMix Bottle.
