Sounds like the game has it's own i/o (input/output) settings. Go to preferences or settings in the game menu (may be under options) and select your input as this mic and not the internal microphone that it has probably defaulted to. Make sure you have your mic plugged in before you start up the game though.

Microphone not working

Hello Weber913,
Below are steps to troubleshoot and resolve your microphone issues. If you have any further questions you can email at my email address listed below.

Test the Microphone

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Sound Recorder.
In Windows XP, you will need to select Multimedia (or Entertainment).
  2. Click the Record button, and speak into the microphone.
The green waveform should react to your voice.
  3. To end the recording, click Stop.
  4. To hear your recording, click the Play button.

Check physical connections

  1. Verify that the microphone is connected to the red microphone jack for the sound card on the back of the computer and not the microphone jack for the modem. The microphone will not record if it is connected to the Mic jack on the modem.
  2. Test the microphone on another computer using Sound Recorder as in Step 1.

Check the volume control and mute properties.

Double-click the Speaker icon in the System Tray.

  1. Make sure the Volume Controls (or Master Out controls) are at least midway on all levels.
  2. Make sure there are no checks in the Mute boxes.
  3. Test the microphone using Sound Recorder as in Step 1.

Set Recording to Mic/Microphone

  1. Double-click the Speaker icon in the System Tray
  2. Click Options in the menu at the top of the window.
  3. Click Properties.
  4. Choose Recording in the Adjust Volume For section. Do not choose Playback in the Adjust Volume for section. Choosing Playback in conjunction with unmuting the mic may cause loud feedback during recordings.
  5. Ensure that Mic/Microphone has a checkmark next to it.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Test the microphone using Sound Recorder as in Step 1.

Reinstall Sound, Video and Game Controller Drivers

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click System and then click the Device Manager tab.
  3. Click the plus (+) sign next to Sound, Video and Game Controllers.
  4. Click each entry one at a time and then click Remove, repeating the steps until the Sound, Video and Game Controllers category is removed.
  5. Close all open windows.
  6. Reboot the computer.
The sound card will be detected and you will be prompted to reinstall its drivers.
  7. Test the microphone using Sound Recorder as in Step 1.
Thank You,

If the person cannot hear you then, either your microphonedriver not installed or not working OR the microphone is not configured inSkype.
To test your microphone then click on Start - All Programs - Accessories -Entertainment - Sound recorder. Then record your voice and then play it back.If this is OK then the microphone need to be configured in Skype.
To configure the microphone - Open Skype - Tools - Options -Audio Settings for the Microphone THEN click on Save.

Turning on Microphone Boost in Windows XP:

Not all sound cards support Microphone Boost. The simplest way to find out in Windows XP is to open the Windows Volume Control. If a speaker icon speakericon.gif is displayed at the lower right hand corner of the Windows Desktop double-click it. If no speaker icon is displayed then click the Windows Start button and select "Run..." In the Open box enter sndvol32.exe and click the OK button. This will open the Windows Volume Control. Select "Advanced Controls" from the Windows Volume Control's Options menu. You should see an "Advanced" button near the lower right hand corner of the Windows Volume Control screen. Click the Advanced button. If the "Advanced Controls for Microphone" screen shows a check box for "Microphone Boost" then check that box and click Close. Now try making a test recording and see if it works.
Now, If you do not find this option, I found an amazing video that might just do the trick. Click on the
link and view how to see the hidden "Mickey" :). Mic Boost.

Changes in software, settings, or drivers can cause a microphone to stop working. Before performing any of the solutions in this document, test the equipment. After testing the equipment, select the document section that applies to the issue and follow the instructions. If the microphone recently stopped working, it may be necessary to use the Microsoft System Restore feature to correct the problem. Windows Troubleshooting Windows troubleshooting can automatically fix common problems with your computer, such as audio recording. Although it may not fix every problem, it is useful to run Windows Troubleshooting first before you manually correct problems. To run Windows Troubleshooting, follow these steps.
  1. Click Start , enter troubleshooting in the search field and select Troubleshooting from the list.
  2. Under Hardware and Sound, click Troubleshoot audio recording and then click Next when the Recording Audio window opens.
  3. Select the device you would like to troubleshoot and then click Next .
If a recommended action displays, select Apply this fix or Skip this step to continue to search for other problems. If your problem has not been resolved, continue to manually troubleshoot using the rest of this document.Test the equipment Verify that the microphone port and the microphone are working properly.
  1. Test the microphone on a known, working portable tape recorder, another computer, or a device that accepts the microphone connector.
  2. Click Start , enter sound in the search field and select Sound Recorder from the list.
  3. Click Record and speak into the microphone. Save the file to an easily-accessible location, such as the desktop.
  4. To play back the recorded sound, open the file using Windows Media Player.
  5. If the recorded sound does not play back, continue to the next section of this document.
  6. If the microphone successfully records the voice, test the record function on the computer. If the microphone does not work properly on another computer or on a tape recorder, try using a different microphone.

Plugging in Mic ceases sound playback

The drivers are working, but you apparently have a non asynchronous driver, meaning it either records, or plays, but has trouble doing both.

Gamers usually like their sound a bit beefier than the standard AC97 chip common with mainboards can produce, I would suggest first making absolutely sure your machine is clear of virii, etc,, turn off the windows sounds, because most earlier built-in sound chips cannot multi-client, and if you still have the problem, go for a USB sound box like the M-audio Transit, for around $100, it will give you high definition sound, both in and out, and you won't have to open your PC to install it.

Mind, I am not a shill for M-Audio, but for gamers, you really need the 24bit/96KHz out, to match your game's audio.

You will also find your games may run more smoothly, as the audio role is now in the little box, rather than your CPU.

The digital out can go to your home theater system, the 5.1 really makes it more fun.

I CAN SEE OTHER PERSON AND THEY CAN SEE ME BUT CANT HEAR ME BUT I CAN HEAR THEM .WHAT HAVE I DONE WRONG

The problem is either the microphone is not connected/faulty or the wrong microphone is selected in the Skype Audio setting.
To check if the microphone is working - go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - Entertainment - Sound Recorder and do a test recording.
If the sound is doesn't work then open Device Manager - Sound, video and game controllers and check the microphone is enabled and working. If it isn't listed or has a yellow ? against the microphone then you need to install the microphone device driver.
If the microphone is working then open Skype then click on Tools tab -then Options - Audio Settings - then in microphone setting and click on the microphone list to select your model microphone. Then Save your settings.
To test your microphone settings then go to Contact list and select Echo / Sound Test.Service and follow the instructions. If this works then your friends will be able to hear you,

The microphone may not work because of a hardware or configuration problem. To determine if it's a hardware problem, test the microphone in Sound Recorder.

  1. Click "Start," > "Programs" ("All Programs" for Windows XP) > "Accessories" > "Entertainment" > "Sound Recorder."
  2. Click the Record button and speak into the microphone of the camera. You should see the green line move, indicating the application is picking up sound.
  3. Click the Stop button.
  4. Click the Play button. If there is no sound at playback, check to make sure the correct device is selected.
    1. Click "Edit," then "Audio Properties."
    2. Make sure Logitech is listed as the Preferred device for "Sound recording."
The microphone may also be defective. To test this, try the camera on another USB enabled system.
If you can record sound in Sound Recorder, but not in the QuickCam application, try setting the Logitech Microphone as the Preferred device in Audio Properties.

Webbcam works but no sound or microphone

First, make sure you have a webcam with a microphone, and run any test software the webcam came with to check and make sure it is *supposed* to work. Next, open SOUND PROPERTIES through the CONTROL PANEL and then from the menu go to ADVANCED and RECORDING and OKAY, to bring up a volume array that includes the control MICROPHONE. Then, dig around to make sure MICROPHONE is the input being selected for amplification, and try ADVANCED on MICROPHONE and turn on BOOST if it has this control. You can test whether all of this worked by opening SOUND RECORDER from ACCESSORIES and making a short recording of yourself cursing the machine and everyone who designs them. If it plays back normally, try your web camera again. If it still has no sound, the problem is in the settings of the web camera itself. Open whatever software it came with and check setting like MUTE and MICROPHONE VOLUME are set correctly.

Good luck...
