The heat exchanger must be free of cracks and holes due to the potential of carbon monoxide leakage. You can probably make a short term repair with sheet metal and high heat furnace refractory cement, but that is a quick fix only.
Please be aware of the potential for a lethal situation due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

It may be either a blocked chimney or a blocked heat exchanger. If you have an air compressor you can try blowing out the heat exchanger. Using a shop vac also works or both. Using the air compressor to blow out the heat exchanger and the shop vac to vacuum up what comes out. A lot of the time these units are in places were mice and other rodents can get into them and build nests or store seeds or whatever in the exchanger part of the heater. If the exchanger or vent are even partially obstructed the flame doesn't get pulled through the exchanger well enough and heats up the rollout switch causing it to open.if there is no vent terminal installed on the vent a strong wind can also cause the same thing. Not an easy task! Take many pictures as well as draw out and mark which wire went where. You will have to remove everything from inside the cabinet to get to the heat exchanger. It may be easier to replace the furnace. If you are paying a professional to do the exchange, figure three hours if they have done it before, if not figure 5 to 6.

I would only assume that now you have taken out an over heating sensor. When a heat exchanger goes bad it is a very dangerous situation because now you are pumping carbon monoxide in your house along with your heat. A 14 code means the thermal fuse (white wire which wraps around the heat exchanger) has snapped. This occurs if the heat exchanger reaches a dangerously high temperature. To correct this error code you need to replace the thermal fuse and keep the heat exchanger from over heating. Typical reasons the heat exchanger over heats are:

1) scaling in the heat exchanger
2) combustion chamber dirty and burning hot

Coolant passes through the heat exchanger below the dashboard heating the interior air from the engine heat. The heat exchanger or its pipe is leak somehow.
A temporary measure is to change the heat/cool knob to cold position. This disconnects the radiator.
Note: If the leak is before the valve then it will not stop leaking.
Also if you use the heater then You need to get the pipe repaired.

The heat exchanger is a bear to change. depending on the age of the unit it might be more practical to replace the unit. However unless you trust this service tech I'd get a second opinion, because it is rare that a heat exchanger will crack, plus by law he or she should have shut the furnace down do to carbonminoxde. Especially rare in Coleman Evcon series units.
