Question about Televison & Video

Open Question

I have an Apex LD4688T TV. It comes on for about 5 secs and then goes black. I do not see any visible burned marks on either Tcon board or the power supply. Any ideas?

SOURCE: monitor fuse keeps blowing

There is definately a shorted component that causes the fuse to blow. Nomaly the ceremic capacitors are the cause of the problem. Check to see if there is visiual dark or burnt ceremic caps with label sameting like this "SCK 083" near the fuse area and change it. Hope it helps, cheers.

SOURCE: No Picture & No sound. Red LED, Green LED, Red LED.

If the power supply outputs are good! Then I would say the back light inverter is bad! If the screen stays black and does not come on.

You may also have to check the IC/Transistors Inverter transfomer drivers, also should Ohm out the resistance of the transformers.

Before we start taking things apart, lets try your simple remove power plug routine and power system back up. Also, please try your unit on a few different channels to see if your problem continues on each channel. Your Main Board, Power Board, T-Control Board are suspected problems at this time. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds, the unit should power down by itself after you have powered it on. If it does not, then do not be concerned. Let me know if the problem continues. The first link below will bring you directly to the troubleshooting guide if you need to continue forward with the same error. Lets focus on the external portion of the TV set first (95 percent of all TV problems are related to things EXTERNAL To the tv itself) Check the physical CONNECTION of all cables by removing each wire bare or RCA and reinstalling it (Each power cable as well), once you have removed one cable, check it for fraying, and if it is already bare, splice a new fresh connection for it. 5. Check to make sure there are NO OTHER uneeded radios, system nearby. these systems, when powered on, will cause electromagnetic interference and prevent more than just severe tv interference SURGE PROTECTOR Surge protectors account for more than 75 percent of electric faults to stereo equipment. Lets start with your AC Wall outlet. It is standard in america that 220 Volts from out of these outlets. This implies that each device will be using 220 Volts (From within that grid zone). If anything including an alarm clock is plugged into any AC outlet socket in the vicinity of the stereo equipment/TV, it will cause electric outage, and prevent electronics from even turning on! Your TV needs dedicated electric power. If your TV is located in the living room then unplug everything else in the living room. Lets plug the TV set into a Dedicated socket. Check all light switches to ensure that power is on for that outlet. Check the TV cable for Fraying both on the ac wall end and where it plugs into the TV. Check all GFCI outlets to ensure that all red reset buttons are pushed in, check the circuit breakers for proper connection and they are turned on. Now, lets try the TV set without it connected to any cable services, vcr, dvd, stereo system, etc. Please respond if we have found a solution.

When troubleshooting these units, there are always several variables to consider. First check to see what last occurred with the unit such as did the children play video games, did the electricity go out due to bad weather. You may see that there are many possibilities but let's focus on what occurred last to the unit. Once we determine what happened last, we may isolate the actual cause of the problem. The actual cause may be associated with projection issues, older versions (Picture tube), interference from devices located nearby, and even a radio turned on and located really close to your unit. This is normally known as electromagnetic interference to electronics and is very common with the error you have provided today. Please continue to look for anything EXTERNAL to the unit before looking at the internal components. I have been working on these a long time so feel free to follow up with me.

SOURCE: lg lcd can a bad tcon board kill all power

Yes , it can be a short on the board that will ask the SMPS unit to protect the power so as to switch off. So even with a multi-meter check you will be able to trace the short on the board, the drivers or any capacitor that is cutting off the power which must solve the issue.

Sounds like main power regulator board fault. There is no such reset button [external] to modern TV. You should have to enter its service mode option to reset it. Tcon board failed check the fuse on the board marked by the letter P on it check it is ok no screen can be the fuse has popped this works in milli amps. if a failing capacitor on main board or on power board it blows the fuse in the tcon board in the middle of the screen back you need to take all boards out and remove the cage mind the cables when doing this. unscrew the 4 screw on the silver case covering the t con board un clip the cables off the screen ( with finger lift the black/brown flaps from cable end up) carefully remove the cables from the tcon board, now looking at the tcon board you will see a row of resistors and one marked with P on it check this. using a meter. should read no resistance and if on buzzer on meter should buzz. if don't buzz, remove the fuse with soldering iron, replace with the same fuse from a nintendo ds they are the same blow rate. before turning on the tv when you put everything back check the capacitors on power board the 16 volt 1000uf check these for damage as this is one of the main areas to cause the tcon board fuse to blow. also on the main board there are 3 capacitors 2 the same size and one that stands up more check these as the power goes to these first before going to the tcon board side. you need to remove them to test them. if any problems with these replace them. when replaced and you have checked there is no faults you can see on any board then turn the tv on. should be fine then.
