Have you checked all USB port sockets to see if any of them are broken? I mean inside the socket itself.
It is easy to break the small plastic black tongue in these (e.g. by bending down on a USB memory stick. Then when you put another USB plug into it, the 4 contacts can get bent and the +5V will short out with the case.
Check all USB sockets.

Check your defrost heater element again, if ok change control module.

ther is a thermocouple next to heater elements , check continuity of elements and thermocouple

The automatically suggestted E13 guidance that the system posts referring to Bosch machines is irrelevant I'm afraid. On a Hoover, the message means "Faulty module connections. Check all connections between modules and associated wiring." The chances are that you have a partially dislodged connector on the main board, or on the connector that goes to the motor
