Sounds like you may have a blockage in the ventilation. try cleaning out the vent hose and the lint trap area and see if that helps. Also, you may want to wash your lint trap with a brush. If you use fabric softener, it can get clogged up and be unable to be noticed just by looking at it.

Trapped dirt/lint sticks to clothes. does the unit need cleaning?

Washing machines usually have a lint catch. When they get full of lint, they will catch no more and may transfer lint back into the wash. On an upright, the lint catch is on top of the spindle and can be pulled straight up and off.

Do you need to vacuum out the lint & how

There are several ways to remove lint from a dryer and vacuum is 1 option. Put the skinniest attachment on the end of a vacuum, pull out the lint screen and put vacuum hose with attachment as far down as it will reach to pull out excess lint that the screen didn't catch. Another, simpler option is to get a wand especially designed for removing lint from your dryer. It cost about $5 in most stores and has bristles on it. You remove the lint screen and work the wand by hand up and down with the lint clinging to the wand. Either way, it's a very good idea to do this operation every few months.

Takes 5 hours to dry a medium load of clothes. Clothes feel slightly warm and damp when removed.

clean out your dryer vent the hose going from your dryer to your house the vent from your laundy room to the out side of the house make sure the vent is as straight and possible and no kinks
also clean your lint screen with soap and water if you use fabric sofener sheets they have a chemical that clogs the screens the watter should flow right thu the lint screen and not puddle up at all

do this asap you are risking damaging your dryer and worse yet your house could catch fire

I need to clean the lint filter on my whirlpool duet front loading washing mashine. where is it located and how can I get to it?

Its not really a lint filter ,it catches everything that gets down to the drain pump. You need to remove the lower panel on the front of the unit(three small screws one on each side and one in the center down at the floor) pull out bottom of panel to axcess the drain pump. MAKE sure to unplug before working inside.drain pump will have two hoses running to it ,to clean out the filter (trap) turn the cap facing you to the left to remove some water will drain out have a towel to catch reinstall everying in reverse order .sounds like a lot but is actually very easy after the first time

F @ P DEGX2 lint trap problem

If you are collecting more on the outside of the house means the lint filter has a tear in it and the lint in being pulled through the tear and pushed out the exhaust. It sounds like you need a new filter but this isn't cheap. If you do it your self it will run about $70 if you get a repair man it will cost about $150.

Our dryer lint trap won't go down all the way and is catching our clothes -- ruining spaghettis straps, bras, etc., twisting everything and catching our clothes on the corner of the trap.

It may be backwards. But the first thing I would look for is if there is lint caught in the shute keeping it from going down all the way. If it is a newer model there is a lint screen sensor that may have come unattached and keeping the lint screen from going down all the way. Good luck.
