If the icemaker is leaking water onto the floor:

  • Turn off the icemaker and then turn off the water supply to the icemaker. See Icemaker On/Off Switch.
  • The water supply line is usually located under the kitchen sink.
  • Locate the cold water line and look for a small 1/4" copper line attached to it. Where these two lines meet, there will be a saddle valve. This is the shut-off valve. Turn this valve in a clockwise manner until it stops. This will shut off the water to the icemaker.

Take the ice maker out and look at the mold. If the coating is flaking off then that is where it is leaking. Will need to replace the ice maker.

SOURCE: GE Monogram refrigerator/freezer problem/ice dam in ice maker

I have had the same problem with ice forming. I found the problem is from the ice maker. The water fill tube delivers water to a plastic piece that acts like a funnel. The water goes through this plastic piece into the ice maker. Ice forms in the plastic funnel piece causing the water to overflow into the ice bin and freezer.

How can i turn off the water function on the door but not the ice, the water line keeps leaking on the back of the frig

When I had this problem the water was coming from the top right rear where the water tube feeds the ice maker. The water line INSIDE the frig that feeds the ice maker occasionally freezes up causing an obstruction which causes the water to leak out the rear. This can only happen when the icemaker activates the water feed. You can remove the tube fitting without fear because the valve that feeds water through the line is at the bottom rear of the unit. If the line is frozen inside I remove the ice bin and tray and use a hair dryer to melt the ice.
I have a similar problem with the condenser fan making a tapping/clacking noise which is also a result of ice building up on that. Wish I had a different frig but for now the hair dryer will have to do.

Samsung mod rfg297aawp. Just began leaking water from the Ice maker. I have a RO water system. Book said to check the inlet water pressure. I wouldnt think that would cause a continous drip from the maker....

Calcium buildup in your water can prevent the inlet valve from closing all the way. To test simply remove hose from inlet valve that goes to ice maker and see if it keeps leaking. The only time water should come out is when ice maker calls for water. Be sure to shut down the ice maker. Push arm upwards or flip the switch. If keeps dripping than replace inlet. If you have any more problems please feel free to contact me.

Water driping from freezer to refrigerator

If this is a side by side refrigerator, water dripping from the cold air return indicates a warm air leak, or some source of constant heat presence. Check to make sure doors close completely, that you have a tight seal along the entire edge of all four sides of both doors, that a light is not staying on when door is closed, that your ice maker is not stuck in the harvest cycle which turns a heater on underneath the ice maker, some other cause not determined without personal inspection.

I opened the door on this frig this morning and water poured out like a small river! It filled the frig, and leaked below into the basement. Horrible! I noticed the water streaming out of the built-in...

obviously a filter leak. the water shuts off when the filter is removed. either it wasn't installed properly or it has a bad gasket. as for the fridge getting warm, the water probably collected and froze to the evaporator coils and now resrticts the cold air flow. you need to turn off the fridge, empty it out, leave the freezer door open, and let the coils defrost on their own. or remove the back panel in the freezer and defrost the coils with a hair dryer. you will need to soak up some water, but not nearly as much. once it's defrosted, dry it out, close the doors and turn it on while it's empty. when it's cold enough, replace the food.

I have a JCD 2289 AE side by side. The freezer has water at the bottom rear that has frozen. How do I turn off the freezer and not the refigerator to defrost it and what could the cause be for the water

Just unplug the frig and open the freezer and let it defrost. Put the frozen items in the frig to keep them cold. Keep the frig closed if possible. You can assist the defrosting by blowing a window fan into the freezer. The room temp will defrost it quickly, or set a blow dryer on LOW and direct toward ice. Careful don't take the chance and turn that dryer on heat. And DO NOT CHIP ICE with a sharp object (patience is free). You may need to physically remove the water as the ice melts. - The source of the ice is probably condensation, or if it happens very quickly, there may be a ice maker leak. Once defrosted replace the frozen items and watch for cause of ice.

Ice maker working sporadically

The ice maker is probably ok. It is most likely the temperature of the freezer. Remove items that block air flow up the back of the freezer. Make sure the door can close securely. You may have water pressure that is too low to fill the ice tray, take time to confirm water pressure to the back of frig. Remove the line and run water into a bucket for several gallons then secure it back to the frig. Make sure the line is tight and does not leak before and AFTER you roll it back into place..

Kenmore frig ice machine doesn't make cube ice

Normally, the ice "cubes" are crescent shaped. The most likely cause for "crushed" ice is that the ice maker isn't getting enough water on its refill cycle after ejecting the tray. Becuase there isn't enough water, the ice looks crushed...it's actually shattered.

Check the water inlet and chute to the ice maker. Sometimes they freeze and have to be manually defrosted. A hair dryer will do the trick. Also check the water chute and be sure it isn't partially frozen.

Start there...if no luck you could also have a failing water filter or sticky water solenoid valve.

Leaking water under frig and ice-maker is not hooked up?

The problem you are experiencing is normally a blocked evaporator drain line. Whether you have a side by side model or a top mount freezer the solution is relatively the same. Most top mount freezer models have a rear evaporator panel covering the aluminum evaporator coils. There are some instances where the evaporator coils are on the floor. These instructions are for top mount freezers where the rear freezer panel covers the evaporator coils. First of all, if there is an ice maker in your unit, this will have to be removed. Normally there are two screws which can be loosened and the body of the ice maker can be lifted off the screws leaving only a plug in harness to disconnect. Remove the harness either from the plug at the left wall or rear of the freezer and set it to the side. Next, remove all the screws securing the rear panel. Remove the rear panel exposing the aluminum evaporator coils. Be careful not to damage these coils as they contain the freon that cools your refrigerator. If you look closely underneath these coils, there will be ice from frozen defrosted water. Using a hair dryer and not a heat gun, melt all the ice and sop up the water with a towel. Now you will see a drain hole which is normally still blocked with ice. Pour hot water in this hole and sop it up. Keep doing this until you pour water down the hole and it drains into the evaporator drain pan either under or behind your refrigerator. Once you have unblocked this drain line, reassemble and plug the refrigerator back in. Set all controls to the middle settings and within 24 hours, your unit will be functioning correctly once again. Jenn air side by side refrigerator ice maker not working

On mine the water inlet feed tube would freeze solid. Removing the ice tray and using a hair dryer to completely thaw the tube would get it working for another month or so. My frig had a solid rubber inlet tube. I noticed at the appliance store that newer models had an inlet tube that was split on top. I got one of these from a local appliance parts store, and it fixed the problem. The tube replacement it easy. Get to the back of the frig. Turn off the water supply. Carefully pry the white plastic piece out ( located on the upper right side when facing the back of the frig. ) of the frig. When you have the new one in hand it will be clear what you are going to do. Pull out the old remove the water line. Attach the line to the new tube and insert it. Turn on water, check for leaks, and you should be ok. This repair is only effective if you have an inlet tube that freezes up. There can be many other malfunctions that stop ice makers from working. This was my problem. Replaced the tube 3 years ago and ice maker has worked fine since the replacement.
